Hi Al, just a thought about grounding and welding with bearings in between. When young I grew up among farms and helped out with general stuff, including welding repairs. As kids we were welding a repair to a bailer, grounded on the body and started welding at a few places that needed repair. The old man went very mad on us saying that we could cause the grounding through bearings to leave spurs which ultimately shorten bearing life. Ever since then grounded on the work piece directly. Love the new cattle.

Good observation and point. With the electrical ground going through bearings, it can damage the balls in the bearing or the race if there is any arcing. Arcing could cause a pit or slight bump on the bearing surfaces and reduce the life of the bearing.
@danabbott2398
@danabbott2398 3 ай бұрын
You ran your welder ground through the bearings of the flail rotator. Connect the ground directly to the rotator so you don't possibly cause an arc in the bearings which will cause them to fail later.

The Family Bull George fell over a Cliff; All Farmers, 100% all, know that to have Livestock they are also going to have dead-stock, cause livestock are not watched 24/7/365 like an infant child is ! The Livestock prefer having boundaries, ( even the Goats don't roam far ) it's a matter of keeping them supplied and happy, only when animals go into heat do they seek a mate, but even then the animal is somewhat confined, Al is lucky to not have neighbors with greener-grasses that entices ! The fence is fine, it is how Homesteaders farm, only Commercial Farming operations require zoo like confinement and they sacrifice for Quantity over Quality, homesteaders animals get ( by-far ) better treatment, and better ( by-far ) health care, because a commercial Farm will just kill the weak, to protect the proof base !

Fence, gates, posts everything needs to be real heavy duty for cattle. Especially if a live bull in the area. I hope they do not learn the hard way .

Homesteader Farming is not Commercial Cattle Farming, So it's a compromise of somewhere in between, George the Bull fell off a cliff, and to farm is to have Livestock and that always has Dead Stock, no matter the operation !

I’d look into dehornng the calves when they’re young, especially if you end up with bull calves that are going to need to be “worked” anyway to get castrated. Really nice looking heifers 👍👏

@@4Classie P.S. there is, of course, regardless of the bulls breed, the calves have a chance of being polled (which would be good)

@@kkeenan536 KK; First Cookie and Myles are intended for Freezer Camp and from what I previously understood from Al, is that he would Butcher his Bulls at maturity, so as to avoid Castration requirement, not saying he would not Castrate when young, just relating to Male not needing De-Horned, because the males are intended to supply meats, and since he plans on only keeping one Bull with possibility of one Steer, ( don't know about Al keeping a Bovine Steer, cause I think he will pasture Bull with his Cows ) and Al discussed on Podcast how De-horning Animals is among the worst jobs for farmers, and my knowing all his Goats were Pulled, an intent to own Pulled animals would be the Short-Horned variety as compromise for still tabling prime meat !
