We think it was the tip of my ski pole...still not entirely sure, but that's what we think.
@scottbillings3677Ай бұрын
@@mikaelashiffrin It's what makes sense for the size injury. You mentioned 7 cm deep. That made me wonder if Atomic would make you some poles with lower baskets to shorten that tip to say 2 or 3cm. With all WC races on fully prepared tracks, there's not a need for a deeper tip to basket for poling away from the start gate. There will never be deep loose snow on the WC track.
@scottbillings3677Ай бұрын
The footage of the fall you shared in this was the first time I could see your pole loose and it hangs up in the blue panel. Normally, hooked to our wrists the pole is too long to stab us but the Leki clips do allow it to come off. The debate then is what's better, pole off and moving hopefully away from us or pole stays on and gets twisted up in gates or fences in a fall.
@craigborrenpohl1233Ай бұрын
@@mikaelashiffrinlooks like there was a gate key in the backpack sitting next to the fence. That was my initial guess. I’ll have to watch again with the ski pole tip in mind. Thank you as always for sharing your journey, seeing the ups as well as the downs shines a light into a world that social media often glosses over.
@MichelBertrandАй бұрын
@@mikaelashiffrin it also looks like at the very end there is a backpack along the fence that you hit on your right side; it could have been something hanging on the outside of the pack that made contact.

The best mini documentary on KZbin. It really is special to have an access to the life of one of the all time greats in sports. She shares such intimate and vulnerable moments and not because she is chasing fame or compassion, but because she truly wants to inspire. The scene with her giving the reward to Bode Miller, day after her surgery is prime example of that. I wish her all the health in the world and a very happy 2025!

Mikaela Shiffrin is all that's right about skiers. Humble, honest, nice, and all out all the time. She is one of my heroes. A few years ago, I rode the quad over the racing trail at Killington with a friend. I said, "They ought to name this trail after Shiffrin," He didn't miss a beat, saying, "They already have,." The name of the trail is Superstar.

its a really good video. thanks for sharing all the background events before and after the killington race. love it. i see what led to the crash in the second run. A deep pothole formed in the course at a turn apex. Your downhill ski impacted the pothole, and rebounded high, which started the disaster sequence. You momentarily lost rhythm, grip, balance, and line, accelerating on a steep icy course. You fought to regain line, leaned in, and fell, slid into the gate, then the full crash developed. It is possible to see the ski pole stick you, as you do the first somersault in the crash sequence. thanks again for sharing this video, really enjoyed it, but not your injury of course

I miss it very much but Ive learned to live with numerous beaches nearby and a nice mid-sized ski area 8 miles away. Gunstock. Being 74, I can ski both Gunstock and Cannon free.
