hi Mandy, i am not a financial advisor but if you are planning to buy a house in a couple of years , moving out of that apartment also makes no financial sense...if i were you i would take what i am willing to spend extra on the new apartment , save it and add to my bond deposit ....rather than taking the money and putting it extra to another persons bond. itry to hang on two years is nothing ...but ke at the end it is your life choice

As a person who bought her own apartment last year I can tell you that RENT sis rent! Purchasing a home is so taxing both financially and emotionally. You need to have extensive savings because those costs can cripple you. So rent the more expensive place with nicer finishes and also save for your home but even if you need to save for the next 4 years do that rather than giving yourself a deadline of when you should buy, because I gave myself that deadline and in as much as I was able to afford the place and move I still feel like I should have waited & built up my savings, furnishings and deposit money because with the number of interest rate hikes you also need to leave yourself sufficient wiggle room financially. So please don't put pressure on yourself to purchase a home it is honestly not all that wethu I miss being a tenant tbh😅

Solid advice. Not to mention that homeownership comes with the costs of maintenance and repairs that you can never predict…The savings is key!!! It can be hard be, but try not to let societal pressure rush you into a such a huge financial decision.

We tend to outgrow place and there's nothing wrong with it, we meant to grow and advance. Extra 4300 for that beautiful is not a lot, if you sit back you realise that you actually spend that amount on other not so important things( what you do is take that 4300 from somethings or a certain expenditure and add it to your rent) , The suggestion of Alwande sharing with Her Lil sis will be a nightmare considering the age difference. Teenagers need their space, they go through so much and theirs room tend to be their only space of escape. And yes it's fine to play it safe sometime but bigger responsibilities give you room to grow and work harder and who knows what the future holds, bigger pay checks maybe or other bigger paying opportunities. FAITH IT MANDY, you've done it before and you can do it again.

Personally as a subscriber who loves you I advise you to pause & be patient and hold on save the extra money you would pay for another rental home with more space that extra 3000-4000R put it in your savings & use it towards your own home you will find you will save faster & your goal of your own home will come to pass quicker.

Two suggestions, you swap rooms with Alwande and that becomes your bedroom then get a single bed for Milani and they share your room. Or find a bigger two bedroom apartment , where you can fit in a work station for your office space in your room, two beds in the one room so Alwande and Milani can share a room for now? They are both girls and Alwande will soon be going to university while Milani will be going to junior primary. Everything is currently going up not sure if it’s ideal to be moving now. That gives you the 2-3 years you need to save for a deposit without putting you on a strain.

I definitely think moving makes sense. The current property served its purpose. And thing the space really is something you'll required. Wilgeheuwel really has move affordable units and some have alot of space. My once rented a large unit there

Keep looking until you find the place thats big enough and within your budget. When you mention that you've been sharing bed with Milani ever since she was born, it dawned on me that the longest time I've ever spent without seeing my son (born in May 2020) is +-9 hours which is when I am at work and he is at preschool. One night I waited for him to fall asleep and took him to his big sister's room. Did the guy not scream in the middle of the night when he realized that I'm not by his side 😏. If i were you i'd definitely not move and save up to buy a permanent home for my kids. Renting is literally paying someone else's bond. I understand the need for a bigger space but it will be so much more worth it in a year when that bigger space is an asset that you own.

For me I would continue renting where you are and rather save that 4300 towards your deposit for a new home in 2025.
