No videos on this but one of the major things we decided to not bring with us was our furniture because our first apartment was fully furnished. Bringing furniture over is expensive (not an issue though if your work sponsors your move) but we also had no emotional connection to our furniture either. The Australians in Amsterdam Facebook group also gave lots of good advice of things to bring over (cold and flu tablets, power adapter boards, etc) :)

Important to note is that seeing your doctor is free and will not count towards the co-pay. Only actual care will count towards it. Since I don't expect to use care this coming year (a bit of gamble but I'm taking the risk) you can increase the co-pay which lowers the monthly premium. 👍🏻

Hello everyone! I am an Italian 18 year old boy and i’m planning to come to Netherlands next spring/summer with my girlfriend. We would like to come for a couple of months, to see and explore the place since we’ve ever been to the Netherlands before and we would like to understand whether we like it or not (and eventually move completely). We are planning to move in the area of Den Haag/Rotterdam since, after some research, it turned out to be the most suitable for our needs and taste. Now, there are a few things we didn’t understand quite well… 1. Being EU nationals, for a short stay (2/3 months) is it necessary to register with authorities to have a BNS number/residence permit/work permit? 2. Can a non resident rent a property? and in case what kind of documentation do we need to rent one? 3. Regarding finding a job, what kind of documentation is an employer likely to request/need? 4. In case we really like it and we decide to stay, what are the things we should do before/as soon as we arrive? (registrations, applications, documents etc…) I really thank you for your help in advance, and I wish you an amazing day. Thanks again by Gian and Cari

Hey Leesa-loveddd this video and got so many tips! Quick quesitons-on bever-what time of 3 in 1 jacket did you get? I am looking at getting the Jack Wolfskin Ottawa 3 in 1? What do you think of that one? I see its a best seller! Which one did you get?
@LeesaYu3 жыл бұрын
Aww thank you for your comment! I don't own anything from Jack Wolfskin so can't attest to its quality, but it is a really popular brand here. I got the Ayacucho Ontario 3-in-1 jacket from Bever (currently on sale!). Looks like the main difference (aside from length) is that mine has a down jacket, whereas the Jack Wolfskin one you're looking at has a fleece jacket. Both can keep you warm but what you should choose really depends on your circumstances - read here for the pros and cons of fleece vs down: www.reddit.com/r/CampingGear/comments/6chtd8/down_jacket_vs_fleece/. I also really recommend you get a thermal (I got mine from UNIQLO). I hope this is helpful! Overall I can definitely recommend a 3-in-1 jacket of any sort because it really does rain quite a lot here, and has saved me numerous times. With this jacket, I haven't even had to use an umbrella (don't even own one here haha).

Hi Leesa! Great video, thanks! The tips were very helpful. I have been considering the LoonZorg insurance but I couldn't find a lot of reviews about them online. They seem to be offering a cheaper insurance with no mandatory excess like you said. Do they offer similar coverage as others or is there any hidden catch in the policy? Could you please share your experience? Thanks!!
@LeesaYu3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment, and I'm glad the tips were helpful! From our own extensive research and conversations with others, coverage is equal to other major insurance providers and there's no hidden catch. It's suitable for people who don't have a lot of health needs and just need basic insurance. BUT we haven't been to the doctors since arriving so I can't give you my personal experience (yet)! You're right that there are hardly any reviews but there are some threads on Facebook expat groups where people have said positive things about LoonZorg. (See the last comment which explains what you would be expected to pay if you exceeded 385 euros - i.e. required more health care during the year): facebook.com/groups/laughingatpotatoes/permalink/4146725492034289. Hey, that's exciting! You've still got a lot of time. If you haven't already got a job here and planning to find one, then I'd start my job search now. It's too early to start locking down places to live (you should maybe start looking 2-3 months before moving), but I would try to figure out which city in the Netherlands you want to base yourself in (don't need to limit yourself to just Amsterdam). You can also scroll through Funda or Pararius to get an idea of how much rent will cost in different cities/neighbourhoods. I would also join all the Facebook expat/international community groups you can now to start learning from others who live here. These are great places to ask questions too. Girls Gone International Amsterdam (or other cities) might be a good one for you if you're a woman and coming alone! Hope this is helpful and I wish you the best of luck!

We got the complete package because we really needed someone to go to the inspections on our behalf while we were still in Australia. Hey Stephen! Glad you found my video useful :) Sounds like you've already got the ball rolling! To answer your question: We had the TransferWise debit Mastercard, and converted some cash before coming here. We used the card for contactless payments, and never used it for ATM withdrawals. If we needed cash, we just used what we brought. The thing is that here, you'll hardly ever use the ATM because people here almost never use cash, and most places don't even accept it!

Yes you’re right that a lot of places here don’t accept credit cards! So before signing up think about whether you need this. However we have kept our card because it’s really useful when travelling and also when purchasing things online where a credit card is accepted :)

They never harass anyone and that is another stark difference compared to america, you know and everybody all over the world knows that the american police are always out to get you for no reason at all*

It is really great you have good experience, it is certainly valid, and heard good stories about our police here in the NL! unfortunately it is not entirely true, racial profiling based on skin color is legally allowed here and there have been many instances that you would stereotypically link to the infamous American police. It differs here a lot per municipality how corrupt or fair the police department is.

You know that you don't need to pay the €385 if you're not using the healthcare. If you need care you just need to pay the first 385 yourself. And some things are just always covered so if you are lucky you might not have to pay it at all.
@LeesaYu3 жыл бұрын
Yes that’s a good point and I should have made that clearer in my video.It literally pays off to be healthy in NL, which is great motivation. I think realistically though, most people sadly need to use healthcare at some point during the year (incl myself) 🙁 but we hope this year we won’t need to access any health care!
@CharleneDandelion2 жыл бұрын
@@LeesaYu There are some things you need to pay for yourself, but most things are covered by the insurance without having to pay 'eigen risico'. I mean not every healthcare thing you need falls under eigen risico, and thus are included in your package and can be dealt with with a 'declaratie'. But I'm sure that agency also told you this! just wanted to clear this up for other people.

I'm a Dutch-born living all my life in the Netherlands. I went to Amsterdam one time and they started to talk English to me on multiple occasions. That never happened in any other Dutch city. It's no problem for me but it shows a difference between Amsterdam and the rest of the Netherlands. Now, with the British coming over after the Brexit it is probably becoming even more so. Anyway I'm totally fine with it and I like Amsterdam but it is indeed a bit different.

@@on-the-pitch-p3w It's true though, A'dam is its own unique bubble of culture. The architecture is super Dutch, but the attitude and culture not so much. Not as grounded I mean. But a very cool city.
