Moving to Cullman, Alabama?

Moved to Cullman in 1985 when I was 5 years old. My mother got a job as an RN at Cullman hospital, which was in the old building near the town hall and library at that time. Been here since. Now listen, I'm not going to lie and tell you that Cullman is some perfect wonderland. It's actually a very boring place to live. However, boring also means safe and quiet. Peaceful even. There aren't tons of things to see and do here, but it's a decent town. Some people are polite, some aren't. That's anywhere you go. The culture has changed a little since the 80s, but not all that much. As a person who's not into religion, football, hunting, fishing, big trucks or drinking alcohol, I have a unique perspective. I don't have the same interests as most people living here. From what I've seen of this town in the last 37 years, Cullman is an okay place IF you're the type of person who enjoys a simple life. If you're looking for a high energy, fast paced, exciting lifestyle, this is not the place for you. It trying to put this as politely as I can. It's better than Jasper. Better than Birmingham. Better than Gadsden. Really, Cullman is the best town in all of North Alabama. But, do I wish I lived in Miami, Florida or Hawaii? Absolutely.

Thanks so much for you comment and the honesty you shared. When I was in high school I couldn’t wait to leave Cullman, but when I got married and had kids, I was so glad that I was back here to raise a family.

I’m thinking of moving back to the South, I miss it so much. Cullman seems like what I’m looking for. Of course I’ve heard of the town’s history, but some might be surprised that many American towns had similar histories. Thankfully a lot has changed in over 50 years. It’s close to Huntsville and Birmingham and which is import to me. I need medical specialists and I’m a young senior so those are two considerations I have.

I lived here my whole life the history of cullman is dark for sure but this place come long way there folks of all walks of life here dont matter what you look like or where you came from

Lived in Cullman all of my life and hate it. When they talk about jobs here they are plant jobs. Smith Lake maybe great place for you if have the big money to buy it. Most people here don’t. I would love to know where all these great restaurants are.

Cullman Alabama is great! I love it here…It’s great! I have so many friends here and i 100% recommend it.

My wife is Mexican, her 2 sisters living there are also Mexican and no problems. We'll be retiring there. I heard nothing but kindness coming from this place.

I'm an American born and raised in NYC. My parents came from Cuba and DR in 1950 and 1952, when blacks and whites were still segregated. My mother would take her dark skinned coworker home every day because she was afraid to go home alone. I guess I take after my mother when it comes to being brave. I became Muslim in 1990 when I was 12, at a time when Islam was unheard of and the internet didn't exist. My children and I dress like Muslims, many think we are Arab from first impression but once we speak, most get curious and ask how I speak Spanish and English. I'm looking to move to Cullman and I wanted to know if we'll be welcomed there. I have six minor children and I'm a divorced mother raising them alone. I'm not afraid, I just want to know what it's like in 2024- please be honest and give current opinions because you've actually been there recently and know the vibe.

It’s such a great little town. Currently there are a lot of job openings, just like throughout the nation. We have a local college, Wallace State Community College, that is fantastic and offers many different education options. Does that answer your questions? Too many Floridians are flocking the area, but not as many as Georgia, Tennessee, and the Carolinas, but that area is starting to creep up in that area.

Thanks for the comment. We have definitely seen an increase in the number of out of state clients looking to purchase here in Cullman over the last two years. I’ve had clients from Cali and Ohio as well.

I've lived in Cullman County and the City of Cullman for 69 years, driven over every street and walked on most of them, and I can guarantee you that's not a Cullman street.

Very good job. Great job promoting Cullman. Ignore the miserable thumbs down brigade. I am looking to relocate from Dallas (originally from Scotland). Can't afford property taxes here ;) Just checking out small towns in AL and Cullman looks like it could be a contender.

No biggie :) my brother lives in meridian Mississippi and can't travel far because of military so I'm trying to stay in alabama but within his distance so we can visit. :) but I'm loving cullman!
