Moving and living in the Dominican Republic could be a challenge for those who come from a more developed country. However, its a great country to live in. Do you think you could make these adjustments?
@kdsjobs5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t have a problem.
@originalmindset52785 жыл бұрын
I can adapt to it... I stayed there for 2 months in the Puerto Plata region, near Cabarete... in Sabaneta de Yasica. Everything you mentioned, was right on point. The power went out everyday, at least once a day, and sometimes twice a day. I had to unplug the refrigerator, before it would even come back on. My electric bill was much higher using the A.C., so I didn't use it until I went to sleep, and only for a short time on those very hot nights. I had 2 huge ceiling fans, one over my bed and one in the living room, and they did the job adequately... One thing you forget to mention... The MOSQUITOES. I had a pool and an outside gym in the gated complex where I was staying, and the mosquitos were terrible in that area, especially at night. Screens on the windows are a MUST, if you want to open them to get a nice breeze. I lived near the ocean, so the ocean breeze was very nice to have, considering I did have window screens. I will say that most of the apartments have window screens, already. Driving is CRAZY, but I'm use to it... Back in the day, I worked for a limousine service in Midtown Manhattan, NY. You have to be aware of the Motor bikes, AT ALL TIMES, anywhere while driving in the DR. They will pass you on either side, without you seeing them at times... And, YOU DON'T WANT TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT IN THE DR... You better have a Long Bank Account, if that happens, whether it's your fault or not. People need and want MONEY. Other than that... I like the country, and would consider retirement there.

Let me add, most groceries stores the tip is expected, I usually tip 50 pesos for bagging and 100 pesos to the car. Now there is Christian Grocery store, I think its Bravo? But they do not accept tips (I tried, they declined) because they do get a salary. And there closed on Sunday. The water can be drinked MUST be boiled first if its a emergency LOL. But getting water in the 50 gallon jugs is what we did also. Very easy, the neighborhood bodega will pick up and deliver to your house. Tips are appreciated (Those Jugs are heavy!). PS. Don't drink the water in the USA! In Michigan a whole community was poisoned! And most municipalities have fluoride, bacteria, and trace amounts of sewage and pharmaceuticals. I am in Florida-NO one drinks the fountain water here. Credit cards as of 10/2020, Credit cards are accepted in all big businesses, grocery stores, shopping centers, hotels. Tip use your credit card for Uer, you can buy $$$ in pesos and just reload it when it runs out on your phone. But if you go to a bodega, or a cafeteria or small mom and pops store bring CASH! But get ready the DR. The world economic forum already stated that every country will be moving towards 100% digital cash by 2030. Globally, 90% of all transactions are digital and not fiat. A couple of these are not so hard to swallow. I live in the US (CT) and we have a water dispenser, because the water tastes bad even if it is safe. Except I pay about $7 US per 5 gallon bottle and more to get it delivered. We go through two 5 gallon bottles per week. I have liquid propane gas for my stove here in the US, because there is no gas line where I live, and I prefer either natural gas or LP for cooking. But here we have a 120 gallon tank outside, and a company comes to fill it instead -- about $2.40 per gallon. Since it is only for cooking, we only use about 15 gallons per month. My electric bill in the summer (with central air conditioning) is anywhere from $500 to $650 per month depending how hot it is. So $200/month sounds pretty good to me. 😄

I really don’t know Spanish my girlfriend from there and we’re going to visit her family soon I’m worried because I don’t speak the language
@NorberisR4 жыл бұрын
No need to be worried. Just learn some of the basic. You'll be ok. Dominicans appreciate when you try.

The best place in Dominican Republic is puerto plata
@NorberisR5 жыл бұрын
That's debatable...lol! It's definitely one of my favorite city. But I like Las Terrenas myself.

More expats in Las Terrenas, POP is a lot more authentic
@NorberisR5 жыл бұрын
I didn't realize that when I was there. I do know its more Europeans in Las Terrenas than Americans. I plan to spend more time in Puerto Plata at some point.

Punta cana has dozens of gated comunitites which goes from 30k condo with 2 bedroom and are super nice much better than any US residential not to mention cheaper lifestyle.

@@idontfukncareabout I need to look into these communities in Punta Cana.

My Friend, I have been to many Foreign Countries and places like Thailand seem to embrace this Lifestyle. If You Change the Word to ESCORT SERVICE than people do not get Upset. I lived in Las Vegas for many Years and Women were never Called Prostitutes. Since I met you I noticed there is alot of Negative Videos on DR. mostly talking about the Women and not so much about the Country. Since I have been here in Mexico I have not meant one Person speak bad about Americans. There is Good and Bad about any Country and many people do not Travel enough to see the Difference. You are Very Protective of Your Country and that is Such a Passion that few People have. But I think You are Got in the Middle of Two Countries. I was born in Italy. Its my Homeland. U.S. is my Country Now. I Respect this Country. I Respect The President. Let me tell you a Secret: the last President to go to a IMPEACHMENT TRIAL was BILL CLINTON...Yes Hilary husband. He Got caught getting a Blow Job in the Oval Office. So if You have a problem with Trump than your other Option was putting back someone in the White House that was Impeached...Yes...he was Impeached but Aquited

The newer constructions do have hot water. Older constructions typically don't. But you can have it installed.

I'm sorry for my accent. Nothing I can do about that. However, I'm sure there are other people who make videos about DR that speak English that you can better understand.
