Really enjoyed your presentation🥰. Just a heads-up, you left one beeeeeg box back in South Africa - Mom and I waited on the docks, but for some unknown reason we were not loaded. So, that's why we popped out to you the other day to catch up with our beautiful Irish family. I loved your phrase that you "are not living off Ireland, but living for Ireland." Well done my Sunshine. Oh yes, your are a family of five ...... plus a dog 🐕😉

Great round up of costs here in Ireland. I don’t know if you mentioned how you heat your home, but heating oil & gas can be an expensive but necessary cost here. While we do have a public health service (the HSE), a lot of people here also have private health insurance (often provided by an employer) as hospital waiting lists are long. If you have a long-term illness like diabetes, you can get a Long Term Illness card, which entitles you to all your medication and associated devices / products free, such as insulin, insulin pump, glucose monitoring, etc. This is not means tested. We may have a decent enough benefits system but to pay for it income taxes IMO are high. Sorry you’re paying so much in rent. It’s gotten crazy in the last couple of years because of the drop in supply. Good luck in your naturalisation process 🤞. Happy to have you here 🇮🇪

No wonder Ireland is seen as cheap compared to the UK. We pay in winter £400 per month for electricity, irrespective of which company you go with. We pay £35 00 per month for water. Food seems to also be a lot more expensive, I pay for two of us £120 to £150 for food per week. Would not move there though too cold.

Certain things are costly like fuel & rent but there’s some positives, like 3rd level education is free (except accommodation & €3k admin), water is free, and local property tax (for home owners) is minuscule compared to the US. I pay around €250 a year.

Majority of people love to get out and exercise though... as far as I can see. I honestly wouldn't be able to recommend a specific town or area though as I really only know Dungarvan but I would recommend looking at the bigger towns/cities. Hi, first of all I Loved your way of presenting this info. Could you please let me know , For Athlone, County westmeath , 45k before tax cut salary is sufficient for a couple.? Will we be able to save any amount? Is Athlone cheap or expensive?
@impromptuimmigrants
@impromptuimmigrants 10 ай бұрын
That depends on a lot of variables to be honest. 45k is (according to google) the average salary here in Ireland so in my opinion you should be able to live off that reasonably well. Saving would all depend on what kind of life style you choose to live. Eating out is very expensive.

Thanks so much! This was very interesting. I live in Canada and it is so much more expensive here. I pay 1400 dollars a month for a tiny one bedroom basement apartment. Food costs me about 100 dollars a week. There are literally no places to rent in this country at all. I moved into this unit in 2020. The same unit would cost 2200.00 dollars a month now. Landlords here are evicting low income people from nearly derelict buildings. They are then renovating them and charging four times the rent for the units. It is utterly disgraceful. Canada was a great place to immigrate to when my family came here in 1900. Please anyone reading this Canada is not a good place to immigrate to. I would love it if more people could come here, We need the people but life here is increasingly hard for everyone. It makes me so sad to see what my beautiful country has come to. I am so happy your family is safe and doing well in such a great country.

Where did you find a shipping company? Did they pick up boxes at your home or did you have to bring them to the port? And what was final euro cost from SA to IE? Thanks! M
@impromptuimmigrants
@impromptuimmigrants 11 күн бұрын
We used a company called seven seas. You tell them how much you are sending and they will either supply the boxes or the dimensions for a crate and then you pack it when they arrive to pick it up so you have to be quite organised and ready for their arrival. In our case we just needed boxes and they delivered them and then picked them up again. It took about 6 weeks in total to get them to Ireland. We had to pay in South Africa for the service and then again once they cleared Dublin (import tax). We were very happy with their service and all our belongings arrived safely.

1800 euros is very high for Dungarvan, that is what you might pay in a large urban town close to Dublin or Cork but not Dungarvan. Keep an eye out in local supermarket notice boards for lettings, you might get somewhere cheaper or even Daft you might get one 3 bed place that is 1800 and another week a similar place for 1300 or 1400 euros.

Thank you gor this video To find a place to rent in Ireland is very complicated and very expensive A lot of persons are sharing apartments like in Cork and it can be cheaper (minimum 650/750euros with sometimes electricity and wifi included) Electricity/gas are more expensive but you will see that and my advise would be to pay monthly.... The price of food is expensive too and meat products have seen their price growing very fast and also dairy products If I have advises it would be to make your own cooking as prepared food/prepared meals/take away can hurt very badly the budget and to compare always electricity/gas/mobile WiFi bills. And if you have a garden.... start to grow your own vegetables 😉

Hi, thank you for your comment. Yes, we pay €1000 for rent. It's a semidetached house. The houses in the area do go for more rental wise and we were very lucky to find this one. I mentioned the higher priced rentals so as not to disillusion anyone as far as rental prices as it's not often you find one for €1000 or less.

To everyone who has a problem with how expensive it is to move here, there's a solution, DON'T. we have a housing shortage and high rents because of everyone that moves over here. Our emmigrants pay a lot more in Australia for rent etc, and they get nothing for free, unlike here where we throw money at people.

Thanks - good info. I have been in Dublin for a month now. Rents here are double what you quoted for Dunvegan. And getting an apartment is so difficult. I was so lucky to get a fab apartment right on the seafront but only because I had a relocation agent looking for me. All other costs are very similar or cheaper than South Africa. Here you pay for what you need. No security companies, car guards etc I take public transport to work and that is capped at 2 euros a trip within 90 minutes so that is an affordable alternative to owning a car. Look forward to more videos!

Great videos! Unfortunately I could not move over to Ireland even with a good paying job in hand due to lack of proper housing for a family in and around Dublin :( The rents are way over 2000EUR/month for a family there, quality varies a lot, and you have to pay huge amounts upfront. And even with that, you can't find an apartment to rent, even with the help of the company (well, in a reasonable time at least). We regretted it very much, everything had to be cancelled :(

Is $1500 USD a month enough for one person.
@impromptuimmigrants
@impromptuimmigrants 2 жыл бұрын
That is quite difficult to answer as everyone has different levels of spending and living. Considering rent in the city can range between €1000 - €2000 for a one bedroom I would say you would need at least €2500 - €3000 a month to live comfortably. In the country it would be lower.

Wow in the uk north yorkshire i around 800 to 1100 for a regular three bedroom. In WIRRAL,Bikenhead a two bed room flat is around 500 to 800 a cool city flat in liverpool is around 1200 upwards. Gas and leccy about 200 a month for a lot. You pay for water in th uknits not much and wifi is about 30 a month for fast unlimited. A loaf of bread is around £1.50

Great video of typical costs. Question for you: Why do you have to pay monthly TV license fee if you're already paying for WiFi and Netflix / Prime ? Is this fee for just getting local TV ?
@impromptuimmigrants
@impromptuimmigrants 10 ай бұрын
The fee is required to be paid by anyone who has a signal receiving TV, even if you don't use it for that purpose.

School is completely free in the UK, laptops are free on loan for poor children. Medicine/ dental, opticians are free for children. A child's immigration status does not matter. Adults pay for prescriptions, if they working.

Current Inflation is being driven up mostly by fuel prices, If we switch to Nuclear power and give greater incentives to buy electric cars (including subsidising and prioritising lithium battery production) this problem will subside substantially over time. Also, many countries are going for the practical short term measures of taxing fossil fuel company profits to discourage extortionate profiteering.. Overall though, Society’s rejection of Nuclear power was a massive mistake, and the environment has payed dearly for it as we continue to rely on fossil fuels for our electricity.

Hi Jim, thank you for your comment. In an ideal world I wish we could live completely off grid and rely on the sun for all power and the land for food. Your comment was very interesting, thanks.

As an Irish person who moved away from that dump years ago, I really don't know why anyone would want to live there unless they don't want to work and just receive freebies from the government. They're the only people who get looked after in Ireland.
