HEY. Soooo I've gotten a couple comments on this video saying things along the lines of... I'm only naming places for rich white people to live, or that I'm racist, or that I'm leaving out places because I'm too good for them in some way. The comments are not only mean and profane, but TOTALLY wrong. In fact, one person mentioned a specific city that I'd left out because I'm "racist." Guess what darling, I LIVE in that city. So.... no. This video is not a list of neighborhoods that I think are cute and fancy and glamorous. These are neighborhoods that are MOST CONVENIENT for actors because they are closer to casting offices, acting studios, etc. I have a long ass commute to my auditions sometimes, because I bought a house that's on the outskirts; I'm only trying to advise LA newcomers on their best choices. Take a look at my list of "NO" Neighborhoods for actors. Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Calabasas... think twice before you make an ignorant statement. Thanks guys! xo

Nice vid Angie, best of luck on your acting goals. LA is a huge city, with lots of colorful characters,lol. I grew up there, so i'm familiar with most of the areas you mentioned. For anyone new to it, definitely do your research before moving . Call a real estate agent and get their advice. They know more than anyone about the neighborhoods .Be warned, It can be expensive !

Guys, listen to me, going to college in L.A or overall in the U.S will increase the chances of you ending up being homeless or very poor, which is not what anyone here wants. So do the exact same thing as me and my cousin did. I've lived in Europe all my life, I was born and raised there. When I was looking for a good college in Belgium I found out that the diploma/degree of Europe is valid in the U.S. This means that I can easily find the job that I'm looking for in the U.S with this diploma. BUT the diploma of the U.S is NOT valid in Europe. So whether you want to stay in the U.S or move to Europe, the best decision is to go to college in Europe. It's really not expensive. You can get a temporarily nationality or citizenship, you can rent or buy a good apartment for a very good price in a nice neighborhood and college is not expensive at all. It's like 2000€ a year. And the government covers most of it for you. Believe it or not. The only thing you have to pay for when it comes to college are your books which cost 1000€, which is not alot. BUT if you go to college in L.A you're gonna pay 74000$ a year. That's alot of money if you ask me. So here's what my cousin and I did. So since I was born in Belgium, I went to college and hopefully if everything works out for me, I'll get my degree in 2 years. Then I'll move to L.A and I'll look for a job with that degree. It's law that I'm doing btw so I'll have to look for a job as an attorney and once I get one I'll move to L.A. Permanently. I'll have my nationality cuz I'm obviously gonna pay for it. Here's what my cousin did. She was born in L.A and lives there to this day. But she went to college in Paris cuz it's alot cheaper. Then she went back to L.A. This is like a life-hack. You basically get to go to college for a very good price. So my advise to you(which you don't have to take) is that you go to college in Europe and then go back to the U.S. You'll end up paying +/- 5% of what you were actually gonna have to pay if you went to college in the U.S. And an extra bonus of going to college in Europe is that you'll learn new languages which will increase your chances of getting a job. Whatever you do, good luck and I hope all of you get what you want.

Yeah I don’t have a car either and I Uber but when I have an audition what I typically do is I leave in enough time to take the metro train and ride as close as I can to get to where I need to be and then I will Uber or Lyft from there - it has saved me a lot of money and I am able to afford to pay for acting classes because if I would have still had my car, I don’t know how I would survive - my Car Note with Insurance was almost $600 a month.

Keishanna Michele Thank you! She makes it sound like using the Metro in LA is impossible (i like how you mix that up with Lyft and Uber). And while Santa Monica and DTLA is 16.5 miles apart, the EXPO Line train makes it so much more bearable, a great alternative/less stressful over being stuck on the 10 Freeway in Rush Hour traffic for sure.

I'm planning on moving to LA after college from Georgia, I prefer temperatures under 80, modern cities, and probably somewhere where things aren't too expensive. I'm working on building my portfolio and getting an internship in Cartoon network for animation and illustration, so I'm guessing all those points combined lead me up to burbank? Are there any other cities that would be better for someone knew to LA or is Burbank my best bet for what I want out of cali life? Also what sort of jobs are best starting out there?

It depends how often you think you'll be needing to travel into LA for jobs. Depends on what you do exactly. If you can work from home or don't need to be in the city too often, I would check out the outskirts like Woodland Hills, Glendale, etc. for less expensive options. If you need to be very central, then any of these neighborhoods I suggested for actors will work!

Not too many houses for rent around here, mostly apartments. Each neighborhood has different averages, but by The Grove, for example, you can get a decent 1 bedroom for around $2000, or 2 bedroom around $3000.

Hi! Just so you know, "Downtown" is more of an industrial part of the city, not so much where attractions are, and it's actually pretty far from the busy parts of the city, especially in traffic. You might want to look at more central areas like Hollywood and West Hollywood. The valley (Studio City, Sherman Oaks) are a tiny but farther but definitely cheaper.

Downtown Long Beach is blowing up. A city-like atmosphere downtown, with smaller hot-spot pockets just a mile or two away (Belmont Shore & North Long Beach.) Blue Line train to downtown. Electric Scooter & bike share programs. FREE red bus and electric golf-cart transportation around the city. Great place for gay people, especially gay women. Thousands of apartments going up. Long Beach Airport MUCH more convenient than LAX. Billions are being invested in the city to prepare for the Olympics. But it's not overly-crowded as of yet, and rents are relatively cheap.

Coming from someone who’s lived in Santa Monica all their life, 10 years back it was just like how she described it but now it’s changed cause more idiots keep coming in and Santa Monica isn’t even as close as big as New York city therefore opportunities last depending on your own quality of life(rich actors).cities like Santa Monica n downtown just lure these types into its quality compared to how traditional it was for the people that live there for generations.

How far is Sherman oaks form LA?
@AngiePattersonYT
@AngiePattersonYT 4 жыл бұрын
Sherman Oaks is very much a part of LA. With no traffic, you can get to Santa Monica in 25 minutes, West Hollywood in 35, and downtown in 40. With traffic... it's a different story. But it's a great choice.

What you're talking about is the west side, not "mid LA". I understand that for actors this might be the "center", but what viewers may not understand that it's really the far west side of LA. Downtown really is in the center.

Yep, that's why I made sure to clarify in the description box that this video is definitely meant for actors and their purposes.

You are WRONG About Glendale! When I lived in La I live in Glendale for 3 and 1/2 years my job was located in Downtown LA and sometimes I have to drive to Santa Monica for our other facilities. Glendale was perfect! Close to Burbank, Pasadena, downtown LA, Hollywood, and Griffin Park. Oh yeah. And it's only 15 minutes away from Studio City lady

Just my two cents, avoid Los Angeles if you can. Horrible traffic, rude and aggressive drivers. The cost of living is enormously high and unattainable for the regular person. Most people who live in California want out and wish to live somewhere else where taxes and housing costs are lower. If you want excitement and bright lights perhaps give Vegas a try.

Yes, good for families. There are definitely nice parts, I'd crime level is... moderate. But definitely family friendly. Not central to LA really though. Anaheim is about an hour away and Riverside is way farther.

But when you don't be nosey, it doesn't become your problem. It really really does sound like all your yes neighborhoods are affluent and white...
