So happy to hear that my story of my struggle and how I managed to survive can be of such great to so many out there that are thinking about embarking on such an endeavor. I never said it was easy, but i can guarantee you it was much easier to survive in Mexico than to try and figure out how to survive on the Streets of L.A or any other major city in the USA these days. Jose this is like Scorsese going back to where they filmed Goodfellas. The same story. The Miami guy in LA. The film editing background. The US drove you into really being close to homeless. Mexico was one of the last choices you had. I have truly enjoyed these videos. From when I was working in Omaha edgeing closer to a retirement. Mexico is such a gift to so many of us. I have watched many other KZbinrs depiction of Mexico. But your the guy that really told it like it is. Your like a street preacher. Pushing for other to come find Mexico. As you know many won't make it but it for those of us who do we really appreciate Mexico. This is awesome. Keep Preaching Brother Jose!!! Your telling us it is safer in working class neighborhoods in Mexico than the USA. You are so correct.
@JoseArteagaTravels12 күн бұрын
Wow! Thank you so much for that huge compliment. Scorsese is one of my all time favorites and so is Goodfellas. When I lived in Seattle I felt just like Ray Liotta did in the movie 😅 It is funny you mention all that because in my mind i'm just living my life but I have realized that due to the fact i make KZbin videos for a living.... it's like people are watching a movie about my life in a weird way.... Anyways Goodfellas, Scarface, and so many others shaped my childhood and how I view the world. Very Happy to see someone able to actually make the connections. I was listening to Quinten Tarantino on Joe Rogan recently.... and wow I forgot his humble beginnings as well, and how similar they were to mine and so many others and yet look at him and how far he's made it and how much of a fan of cinema he still is... That's all im doing, just living and enjoying my life and it makes me so happy that I can make others happy by just sharing my life and my thoughts with you guys. Muchas Gracias for your kind words!

Even if you have a home in the US (that you dont own unless it is paid off, the bank owns it), then you still have home insurance and property tax's. People are drowning in debt trying to keep a roof over their heads I have been looking up to the sky during this entire video and it is BEAUTIFUL!!! No Chem Trails. One of the best things about Mexico is that Chem Trails spraying is NOT ALLOWED!! Neither is GMO food. This is why people move to Mexico sick from eating, drinking water, eating the food and breathing chemical laden air in the USA...and they get well. They get healthy from the toxin free food, clean air and less stress.

Jose, I have been a subscriber for a long time. I enjoy all your videos. I have been to Merida about 11 x and was actually planning on moving there until they banned smoking. You have to admit that you being able to speak Spanish helped you tremendously in your mood there unlike most of us that can barely speak it. I am not saying this to downplay your move there. I commend you on all you do and love looking forward to all your videos. Have a great day

They didnt ban smoking in Mexico they just banned smoking in places such as Hospitals, Schools, and other areas in which they are already banned in most places. The reality is that the smoking ban has had zero affect on life out here. Again it was mainly to just formalize no smoking in a restaurant and things like that.

Yes they are allowed but as you can see most people walk and the streets and sidewalks are not the best in these areas so the few people that have mobility issues tend to stay away from these areas and might have a family member go for them. But honestly they are very rare to see out here.

I want to tell you a quick story of one of the times while I was there with my partner. We took the bus from Merida to Progreso. When we got on the bus we sat down. And then a lady got on so my partner stood up and let her sit down. Another guy got on the bus and did not know I was with my partner standing up and he was taking his wallet sliding it out of the back of his pants while all of the other people were watching and did not say nothing. I spoke up and told my partner to grab his wallet and the guy that was trying to take it was shocked because he didn't know we were together. It really upset me not only of what he did but that the other people or Mexicans sitting on the bus said nothing or did nothing
@JoseArteagaTravels11 күн бұрын
That’s terrible! You are right to speak up about what happened. I have never encountered this type of behavior but I appreciate your courage in speaking out. I do know the people in this region of Mexico are more soft spoken than in other parts of Mexico when it comes to things like this. As you know petty crimes are common worldwide and its all about using common sense and situational awareness to avoid such situations such as you demonstrated. Thanks again for sharing with us

@JoseArteagaTravels7 күн бұрын
It's great you have your dual citizenship! That is a major game changer! You can easily find work, thing is not sure if the wages are going to be satisfactory to you coming from the USA were you are used to getting paid more for the same kind of work. I will be doing a video covering this topic soon, but long story short you might have to get creative and find a higher form of income if Mexican wages are not enough for you to fit your lifestyle.

I don’t know where you live in the United States. I live in a calm and nice area. Going to Mexico would be for me going to a place where I can live better with the same amount I live in the US. This guy was young when he moved to Mexico and had no money…but for me and my husband we are closed to retirement and I think we can live decently with 3,000 per month without going crazy. When I look at these videos and I see the sidewalks broken my question is how an old lady would be able to walk around without breaking her neck😅😅😅… so the first thing I would look for is a neighborhood that has decent sidewalks and roads. And of course it will cost me more…because in Mexico that is the price you have to pay to live decently. 😊😊😊

Great video. But I am confused on the $1,500 part. How much did you spend before you got there? Lawyers, residency applications, what was your source of income to prove to Mexico you can survive on your own if you only had $1,500 to your name. Generally it's about $1,800 monthly income you have to prove. (Pensionado visa) Were you already approved before you got there? I am looking to move one day to Mexico also. But the pensionado visa alone is about 2k a month on SS. Thank you again for the great videos.
@JoseArteagaTravels12 күн бұрын
All great questions! I had $1,500 left when I got here after purchasing my 1 way Airplane ticket and paying for 1 month in an Airbnb. So i had about $2,500 or so before leaving the USA. When I arrived I was on a tourist visa that eventually expired and i was here without a visa for almost a year before I got my residency. How I got my residency? I left Mexico to renew my visa, paid a fine, came back to Mexico and Married my Mexican Wife. We are 5 years happily married as of next month. I was able to save so much money on lawyers and facilitators and all that stuff because i speak fluent Spanish and i just did everything on my own. That is the short version. If you want more details on how i actually lived out here and still do.... check out the rest of my channel for more valuable information on how I do it.

@JoseArteagaTravels11 күн бұрын
It really all depends on where in the Americas you are. There are plenty of cities and parks you can visit at night without any safety concerns. As for the advice on cell phones/cameras it would be the same advice i would give if you were visiting New York City or any other major city that is heavily congested.

You can try looking into areas where there are more English speaking Mexicans to cater to your needs. But just be aware that the more things are in English the more expensive they are going to be. In order to truly be able to live on a bare bones budget one must know some Spanish. At the very least make an attempt at learning. The less you want ot learn the more you will have to pay.

I am actually showing people what it takes to make it happen to let those out there in the audience thinking about doing such a move what it will actually look like, because the reality of it is that many people come out here with just a few bucks and think they will be living out here as if they came out here with 10x the amount they actually brought. Just trying to give people a reality check. It can be done, but most people won't be able to make it happen. Hope that makes more sense 😅

@JoseArteagaTravels9 күн бұрын
That may be true, but it’s about the journey not just the destination. I had my reasons for picking Mexico such as the fact i had limited funds and a plane ticket to the other side of the planet to countries with much stricter immigration rules was not a real viable option for me. That is why I decided that Mexico was the best fit for me and my situation. The close proximity to the USA and the affordability to get to Mexico was a major factor in my decision. There are many other people in the same boat as I was. In fact I am sure some people in the audience would rather move to Asia and simply don't because of all the extra hurdles most people simply can not cross. Either way Thank you so much for sharing with us!
