Don't feel disrespected by people who look strangely at you, especially the older ones, our country is not much visited by foreigners and foreigners who look different from romanians, especially black people are rarely seen here and people stare more out of curiosity. In general, we are happy when foreigners visit our country and we start sharing our culture, our history, etc. with them. Have fun in Romania!

As an Englishman who moved to Romania 7 years ago permanently, its a beautiful country with great people. The staring is no disrespect at all...just curiosity and in many cases its respect as well, people just happy to see others visiting Romania. As for the taxi driver using some colorful language, Romanians have the best talent in the world for telling someone off, they can be direct or indirect and still make it sound polite 😁. You will both enjoy Romania, good luck.

Romanians are very direct and tell you what they think up front. For example, if you are fat, they tell you directly that you have gained weight - not to laugh at you, but to warn you to take care of your health. You don't have to be offended by anything in Romania, take all this as advice from friends. If they look at you because you're black, smile and mind your own business. In general, Romanians are kind and willing to help.

@@therealwan Nobody care about your opinion, but YES, we are direct and not hypocrites like you in North-America !! We have old history, plenty of traditions, deep faith in God (not s-hitty Gospel) and strong culture. Our country is maybe the safest country in Europe... as long you are peaceful and respectful. Our people are maybe the nicest and helpful people in Europe... till you piss them off ! Just be nice, take care of your business... and NEVER try to do something bad ! One of your fellas, basketball player, was k illed by romanians when he abused a romanian woman in a bar.... and we dont need gunshot. There is Bolt too, not just Uber. Best vegetables in the vegetable market, not in stores. Also raw milk can be bought in markets and it's way better than in a box but do boil it. Pork is the main meat in Romania and in Brasov there are plenty of good restaurants with Romanian food, some decent Italian and Chinese restaurants too. Burgers, available but not really a thing Romanians eat much so don't get stuck on trying only the dishes you are familiar with. Oh and lots of soups in Romanian cuisine

@@therealwan It takes some semi-random walks to find the best places, as.a lot of people here just don't use Google Maps, so you often get the "touristy" opinions in the reviews. IMO the best way is to go to a bakery (e.g. Brutarie Simplu). Ask the person at the counter what their favorite is, and buy one. If you like it, too, you now know someone who shares your tastes, at least for that. Now, ask them where they get their favorite local butter and to make bread, or put on bread. The foodies all seem to know each other, and this lets you get into that network. For example, the forest mushrooms here are some of the best in the world, but unless you know where in the forest to go, you're stuck. Start at Piața Dacia near the main train station, where you can sometimes find them fresh. Then go for the tomatoes (OMG some of the tomatoes here are as good as anything in Italy). Rinse and repeat. :)

Some old people may still have a hard time accepting foreigners but 80%+ of all young people will be able to have a civil conversation with you in English. Go up to the poiana. Winter or summer. Beautiful place. I’d go on a walk every day for the rest of my life if I lived there. Climb the mt tampa too. Beautiful. I love it there. My home town. I was born there. I remember when I moved to the UK for the first time. I was staring at black people because I only saw them in the movies. I was staring at Indians and everyone else that looked different. It was my dream to live in a multicultural city. You will notice in Romania, some people adopted the hip hop American scene, and even the African American brotherhood culture. We think you are cool, and probably a lot of people will want to be your friend. After 12 years of UK, I blended in and got used to cultural diversity. I just returned back to Romania, in Brasov, and I was delighted to see that people from abroad are interested to live here, that's a compliment for us. If you think you get the stares in Brasov, then try a Romanian village, it's a premiere for them. It's just curiosity. Also, if you hear the word 'negru', it means 'black' in our language and has nothing to do with the 'n' word in the States.

Most people are staring because you look foreign and they are curious to know who you are. I live in a much smaller city, we had a lot of players from different countries, and people were staring at first, then they got used to the idea that some guy from Brazil plays for the local team and lives in their neighborhood, and the staring stopped. You guys have nothing to worry about, enjoy Romania.

You can get a shower curtain and a stick to hang it on at most houseware stores, it's not supposed to be without it. You create extra work for yourself if you let it pool on the floor. Most places come without one but you're supposed to buy one :). Also oh my goooooddddd 580euros you paid for that in Brasov? That's a bit pricy I'll be honest. 400-450 euro would be a farer price for a place even furnished that way. Inflation went crazy in some places I guess. Hope you enjoy the town and sights. And don't be afraid to travel outside of town, there's a lot of fun out there (Sighisoara, Sibiu, Sinaia, Bran).

Now we have 3 months of heatwave in july-august-september, oct-november decent weather, december-january-february some english type of weather witn rain and floods then good weather until july heathwaves start. And some still say there is no such thing as global warmin :( . The apartments are furnished because people that rent don't usually have a lot of money to buy anything else , for us most of the salary goes to rent/utility/food . Plus many people that rent are students that come from the regional parts and again they dont have a lot of money

Don't fear the mountains, as long as you have strong ankles and the right clothes. The bears and wolves are very unlikely to approach anyone in a group. The air quality will make your life better, and the water from the springs is spectacularly good. These hills will change your life for the better.

Welcome to Romania ! Seeing you play ball and Romanian people love basketball let me give you a tip. There's a road called " Drumul cu Șmen " where you can place a ball on the ground (or a car in neutral) and instead of the ball rolling downhill , it rolls uphill. If you are in the mood for traveling and wanna see some strange stuff :) Also recommend Salina Turda near Cluj.Hope yall enjoy the stay !

That 13:35 moment was so funny! Nobody but you reacted to the sound! :)) But I understand, in USA having a gun is like owning a bike.. Here instead, I'm 30 and haven't touched one yet. Have a nice stay!

Great video! We'll be back in Brasov in March for 3 weeks. My wife's family flat is about a 10 minute walk from the Black Church/historical center/old town. Do you have any home (Brasov) games in March? (Edit: where did you find a burger in old town?)

Thank you for sharing your experience. I really want to come visit Brasov with the intention of seeing if it's a place I want to live. I'm a white guy but look very different. I'm 6'6", very large, long hair long beard, tattoos from my neck to my ankles. Can't hide much! But I can't thank you enough for your perspective. It's a dream and I'm struggling right now, but I heard your words and I'm going to keep my eyes on the stars. Cheers man.

Brasov is a a great place to be, especially if you like outdoors, old buildings, there are a lot of fortresses in the area, but if you prefer indoors like malls, go to Bucharest a train ride takes about 3 hours Tip to all foreigners, Romanians have a habit of joking about everything, so take things with a grain of salt

People stare because it is rare to see a tall person and since your black too it makes it super intersting for us here in Romania specialy for those who never left the borders of the country. I live next to Brasov and in my opinion Brasov is one of the most beautifull citys in Romania.

@@therealwan You guys would call it tripe soup. We call it "ciorba de burta" but it's not as good everywhere so you would have to ask around where the best tripe soup in the city is and give it a try. Either you really like it or you hate it. If you eat meat and the soup is done right you should like it especially if you had a bunch of alcohol the night before.
