It's funny you mentioned the peanut butter. It reminded me when I was a kid growing up in Bangkok during the mid to late 80's. My American father always complained about how difficult it was to find peanut butter. He often found it to be quite expensive as well. He eventually succeeded in making his very own peanut butter to his liking, which was quite thick and tasty.

I don't know if you go back and read comments on your older posts or not but maybe I can help you a little. Like you, I have a wider foot than most and originally had trouble buying shoes here. I finally found the sporting goods store on Level 2, Central Festival, Beach Rd, Pattaya. They stock New Balance and they usually have a small selection of the half sizes which are the wider ones. I wear a 46 and a half which is very comfortable. I believe that New Balance is the only brand here that does those sizes.

I suspect part of long-term success in a new place different than where you were is adapting to how things are now. :-) Another might be reevaluating how you do things, is it still practical? Is there a better way, or a local way that's acceptable to you to do things? Using one of your examples, I was a Crest guy for decades, but Crest toothpaste isn't readily available here. I imported Crest for a while, but came to the conclusion I was being both silly and ridged. Colgate works fine and is at every 7 and Tesco. I just needed to adapt to how things are instead of how things were. :-)

Loved the interview, she is an Aussie, you get some accent changes across Australia and there are a lot of Kiwi's in Perth which can influence that. W.A Women are very down to Earth, they will happily go fishing with you, or just sit and drink beer and watch the scenery go by, also very independent. You will miss her if she moves! I agree with you both, its always changing in Thailand, in fact all of Asia. Every year I visit Thailand and get shocked how quickly the urban landscape can change, it highlights how poorly we invest in infrastructure in developed Western Countries now, so risk adverse also.
