What a way to introduce her to the USA, Costco LOL. My Japanese wife loves Costco too. About the HVAC, make sure to get a heatpump mini-split rated for your winters, and also have the fireplace and chimney inspected and swept (you can sweep it by yourself yearly after that) and build up your firewood stock for emergency heat. A kerosene heater is also a good heat option for backup. Glad she is "home" now and wish you both the best of luck.

That house has been transformed, at the moment into a bike storage facility but will be a wonderful home in the future once completed. Congratulations on all the new sponsorships which are a good source on money and content, as well as being very useful for your multiple cycling activities.

Be sure to get a good dehumidifier or two and keep up on emptying their buckets. They can be mounted over the slop sink without the bucket to simply maintenance. That mold can come back otherwise. If you will be living there long term, look into a centralized heating and cooling system. P.S. As the customs officials say, “Welcome home”.

I remember when I first landed in Romania. Right after I checked into my hotel I b-lined it to the nearest store and bought the biggest half-gallon of milk I could find and then chugged it in the parking lot.
