What about medical. Winston-Salem is in my top three retirement locations. What can I expect regarding finding doctors, urgent care and hospitals?

Main reason was we couldn’t afford to move back.

I moved here about a year and a half ago from Colorado, and this is a fair representation of the W-S area. As far as food goes, there is more variety than I expected, but this is a meat and potatoes kind of area in a predominantly meat and potatoes kind of state, so you're not getting much edgy food that I've seen. Regarding the trail system, the only truly connected system of trails I've seen is along and next to the Salem Creek Greenway which goes from Washington Park to the Salem Lake trail. There are trails that connect to the greenway trail in addition to the Salem Lake trail. I'm from the Denver area and this place is like the Denver area was in the 80's as far as trail system development goes. It's mostly a jumble of unconnected trails and parks throughout the metro area. I can tell that it's improving though, and I moved here knowing that.

In the past 5 years I've been doing a lot of research in the Carolinas. I'm from NJ and long story short, I'm moving south soon. I've fallen in love with Greenville SC (Greer & TR are my top 2 places) , but others recently have mentioned Winston-Salem area. What are some things you like about Winston-Salem over Greenville?

In my opinion, we like WS location vs Gville SC as we have more hiking options in the mountains that’s a closer drive, closer drive to get back up north, about 3 hours 15 mins to the NC beaches (more variety) a little cooler vs Gville in MY opinion. Where did you relocate from and what made you choose Winston-Salem over Greensboro?

We relocated from Massachusetts. We had also lived in Florida, Texas, and South Carolina. We moved at the beginning of the pandemic so we were a little limited with the lack of inventory and the time crunch we were under at that time. Overall, we are happy with our decision & that everything just worked out! 😊

Thanks for this information as I am looking to relocate. What you didn't mention was the amount of crime in Winston-Salem. Some sites say it's low & others say it's high. This is confusing. What is your take on crime? Thank you in advance.

We did. After being back in the northeast for a few years, we had our fill & moved back to the Carolinas. But instead of moving back to Greenville, we moved to the Winston Salem area. 😊
