When I think of Mapunapuna, I think of the old Big Boy's restaurant , Henry Loui's restaurant and 99 Ranch Market. Back in the 70's and 80's Hotel St. had lots of porn theaters. Hotel St. was also the transit place between town buses and country buses, the old HRT and Leeward bus company right at Fort St. Mall, that tells you how old I am. Used to live in the Hobron area. Waikiki is sectioned into 3 areas, West, Central and east Waikiki.

Excellent synopsis of 2025 areas. When I think of the Airport area, I think of Nimitz and makai from it. Haven't been near Hotel Street since 1979. It was pretty dicey back then. My Dream neighborhood? Mililani Mauka. TYVM for sharing your thoughts.

I lived in Waikiki in 2009-2019. I had a job at Kahlani high school and times supermarket. Now I live in Northern California. Honolulu is very laid back and relaxed. Crime is worse in California by far.

I enjoyed your video. These were my stomping grounds for 30 years. I used to take bus 3 to work from Salt Lake to Waikiki every morning at 5:15am. And on my lunch hour walk from Waikiki to Ala Moana Park and back. Such a beautiful area. But in retirement you know it's too expensive to live on Oahu if you want to do other things. From Florida we can roam the east coast instead of driving to the North Shore a couple hundred times.

Airport area makes sense. Those one-way arrivals probably had just enough money to pay for the ticket and nothing else, counting on sunny weather and Hawaiian people's kindness.

right off of airport is H1 freeway overpass and underneath is Nimitz Hwy. sometimes its cardboard shack village under the overpass over there. I'm willing to bet many of them there are people fresh off the plane who came with no plan or even worst, some states were sending their homeless population to hawaii. buying homeless people one way tickets to here, look it up

It's truely sad for me to hear of this, when I lived on Oahu in the early 70's it was really heaven on earth, a place God himself had blessed...My heart aches to even think about the change that has taken place in such a once beautiful and wonderful place that still means so much to me, even after all these years...Hotel street was another story.

I would agree with Downtown/Chinatown and Waikiki...but I would put Kalihi over the Airport area. Maybe the Kalihi peepz report crime less...

Nothing has really changed and I left Honolulu in 1972! In fact, it's probably worse. LA is the same. I came here in 1972 after leaving Hawaii and it is many times worse. Luckily I ended up in a suburb way outside of LA city and almost knocking on the door of Orange County.

When I was there, I used to hear about Hotel Street being rough and having the "working women." The area of Wahiawa closest to the end of the highway across from Wheeler and Schofield had a noticeable seediness to it. A few years ago, someone or some people set fire to the surfboard racks right behind the police substation. A couple of the walking video channels would catch some of what looked like working women on Kalakaua at night. Recently, I noticed all the beach parking lots and trail heads have big signs warning of break-ins, and when I was keeping up with Hawaii news regularly, there were many reports about it. It is a shame that can not be deterred any kind of way. That seems to be a problem everywhere as in my mainland area, there are reports of burglaries from unlocked cars every single day with guns getting stolen.

The layer of scuzz in the cities is thriving all over the country. Hawai'i hasn't gotten as bad as the mainland, but all it takes is criminals getting away with their crimes and getting confidence to commit more. Voters need to push for flush police budgets and meaningful jail sentences.

I live Salt Lake. One of the shitty side for the folks living by the airport is the homeless people making house by the fence next to the military housing. I remembered driving by and seeing a chop shop tent with parts scattered all over the area. Not to mention at night, you can hear the street racing on both sides of the freeway, so imagine how loud it is living next to the area.

3:29 I had a storage unit at that Hawaii Self Storage years ago. It's on Ahua Street. I still remember the incident with the meth head and the fire in his van that was real close to HSS. 10:25 I remember seeing a bunch of 1099 independent contractors lined up across from Moana Surfrider on the side of that ABC store on Ka'iulani Street and thought "they're just there like that, no one says anything?" Just strange.

Oh, there are shops where you can leave your stuff at if you’re gonna be hanging out in Waikiki beach like Waikiki Baggage and Luggage Storage. That’s if your not leaving your stuff at your hotel or if you just want a place to hold your stuff at while you do shit.

Just giving you guys a hard time, but this is what I heard... "I wouldn't walk here at night, this is a bad neighborhood...but you get more bang for your buck if you buy a condo here! You're going to spend more money 3 blocks from here (you know, the safe neighborhood where all the rich people live and you feel safe walking at night). Don't buy a condo where all those rich people live...buy a condo here, on the corner where my friend from high school was a pimp!" LOL! Just having fun with you guys! Sorry guys, you're not selling me on those other neighborhoods...if I buy a condo I'll buy it in Park Lane or in Ward Village. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did lol!

just gotta stay away from lewers and kuhio. mainly do to the bar. not the patrons but the peoples that hang out outside the bar. Everything you guys mentioned is on that street. need something, you probably could find it there. Fights, drugs, and prostitution. Then it spills over east and west on both Kalakaua and Kuhio. But yes I think more happens on Kuhio then the front street for sure. Back in the day my spot was the Jazz Celler and The Wave after. Back then not too much challenges all about having some fun without no drama...Thanks for video!!!
