Coming along good. The bentgrass will be fine in your winters. It does just fine here in Saskatchewan Canada. We get temps avg -20c down into -35c , and snow cover from November to April. As long as it drains well, and you run a good fungicide program ..your winters will be a breeze.

I have lived in North Carolina all my life and grew up playing on bent grass greens . They did great but struggled through the hot days in summer . About 10 years ago the discovery of a hybrid Bermuda which had all the advantages of Bermuda but without the extreme grain you had prior . Slowly many of the courses around here have change over to this new strain of Bermuda . The only problem now is the speeds of these greens can get so fast that things can get a little out of hand .

Yeah lots of experience with bent luckily from when I was on the golf course. Fungicide is a must due to fusarium. It does slow down in winter though. Frosts hit it hard and we only used to cut twice a week in winter.

What's the theory around regular top dressing (dusting) make it fill in? Does dusting it over the top of bare patches promote growth by making it try and push through the sand again? But how does it make it grow sideways thicken up? I still have some bare patches in my lawn after scarify and top dress with sand. I have over seeded those areas are you saying it's better to continually dust those areas?

You should put a rain gage by the green, 100 ft or so away this will let you know how much is going in especially during summer since 1 to 1.5 inches is recommended per week of water for bentgrass greens. I aim for .5 to 1 inch to keel greens faster and only water once per week so you get a better soaking so roots grow deeper not shorter...this is for mature greens not seeded and growing in for anyone reading

Remember you should alter your cutting path by 45 degrees each day or time you mow. This helps best with less compaction and makes the bentgrass or any turf creep together better and help from any grain issues from forming like you see with Bermuda greens. These newer super bents have had issues with grain patterns forming in greens from time to time but most likely this is poor maintenance, from mowing the same way, not verticutting and so on

Save making a mess of the mower, mess of ya boots, and have a far more enjoyable mow 🤔 And if your looking to get scientific, whos to say its not more beneficial to let the full grass blade dry out, get a bit of morning sun, warm the ground a little and then cut..

Should always mention for the noobs or less informed that you should always rotate your fungicides, using 3 to 4 different kinds so the turf doesn't build up a immunity to any one fungicide class / group.
