Pilot episodes are actually not episode one, Pilot doesn't mean first episode. It's basically a test or pitch for the show. So this pilot is not the first episode it's to see if the concept has an audience, which it clearly did. Other shows will also air the pilot as the first episode much of the time. This show made a number of changes between the pilot and first episode, so they're still distinct.

You can even tell by the time that has passed with hair length. But like Owl House's pilot is not canon. Live shows seem to more likely keep their pilots as the first episode, were animated shows might not due to style and story change.

Eh, I kind of miss Stolas being a little evil. I liked the idea that his initial arrangement with Blitz was more "You have two things you can do unless you want me to burn your company to the ground for stealing my book: You can take out some human targets I'll give you every once in a while, or you can come over to my place and smash me once in a while." It would kind of build a really interesting, unhealthy dynamic to me where Blitz would need to face himself and his past relationships with people like Fizz and Verosika and how/if they impact why he keeps agreeing to Stolas' demands even if he hates feeling like a plaything, while Stolas would be forced to realize that he's never treated anyone besides maybe his own daughter like a person with feelings to consider. It would have then added something more to his relationship with Stella, because yes, she's always screamed for attention and regard, but would he have noticed if she didn't make herself impossible to ignore? IDK, I just like the concept behind pilot Stolas too much, I think.

I 100% agree with Danny on the fact that the canon 1st episode is a way better hook for the show than the pilot. When i first saw the show I watched the first canon episode from the get go, and then my buddy who recommended it to me told about the pilot, however the only thing i solely gained from the pilot was the I.M.P Jingle (which i love) because everything else was either changed/erased for the canon storyline or featured/mentioned in the canon story, including the Blitzø stealing Stolas's grimoire after sleeping with him (s2 ep1)

@kaelalist9656 I think about this one particular live action skit every time I pour a liquid into a container. There was this one episode about babysitting and the person was trying to find a bottle. And then there were all these different cups and stuff to talk about volume and how the volume never changed, just the shape. I also think about this one where they showed why you shouldn't play carnival games because they are rigged. Actually had that running through my head during LooLooLand so much 🤣 I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers the live action 🤣

There are a few jokes and things from the pilot that are either touched on in later episodes or recurring. Fortunately/unfortunately, a good portion of it has been considered non-canon. Example is Stolas. You can easily see a massive difference in the way he acts in the pilot as opposed to later episodes and not just with the change in VA. They originally envisioned him as being a little antagonistic, but then they decided to change that to focus more on him as a surprisingly good father. (although it does appear that the personality they gave him in the pilot has been moved to another character that you’ll meet in the future) There’s also the fact that you unintentionally made the same joke in Hazbin hotel, that is done in this pilot from Moxxie: “ you’re the boss we are the employees.”

the main lore with the stolas/blitzø scene is that Blitzø intended it as a one night stand to steal the book -- this is brought up later in the series, but is kinda important for explaining their relationship in s1 because Stolas thought they had a 'thing' going when he made the phone call in episode 1 to be like 'so what are we' and also explains (partially) Blitzø indifference/hesitancy towards their relations -- also the Jingle

It gives context that the Cherubs made their own commercial and ripped off I.M.P.s jingle. Which adds to Blitzø being pissed and shooting the tv. It also sets the context that Luna is Blitzøs adopted daughter and why Stolas was hitting up his phone in Episode 1. Also millie's voice actor is different in this one. She gets a new voice actor in the series and her country accent comes through more. And if you want to react to it theres a full version of "Oh Millie" that they made before the series started.

The important bits of context to take from the pilot: - Blitzo adopted Loona - Blitzo often stalks Moxxie and Millie bc he has boundary problems (and kinda also wants some of what they have together) - Stolas and Blitzo's sex deal wasnt made until episode 1, implying that Blitzo outright stole the book from Stolas for his business. - Blitzo and Stolas are having an affair, as Stolas is married - Loona has a running "gag" of making fun of Moxxie's weight. - The Hazbin clip Loona is watching is from the pilot scene where Charlie is live on the news, implying that the Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel pilots are set on the same day. - Moxxie and Millie have a loving and stable relationship.
