Honestly, I like the friendship mechanic for nuzlockes. It hurts the challenge a bit, but the whole point of naming everything is to get more attached. It's cool seeing that attachment have a mechanical effect, and it can lead to some hype moments. I like watching nuzlockes that give the Pokemon personality rather than just treating them as game pieces, and the friendship mechanic feeds into that.

@@jld12er Long live squoop. I myself can also confirm Gastrodon is very epic because I have one on my team in Pokémon brick bronze named shaggymous and he was the absolute MVP of the champion fight. He took out a glimmora, a landorus, and a large chunk of a heatran’s health bar before going down. (It wasn’t a nuzlocke though so he’s fine.) Shaggymous also won me a PVP match where I was down 3-1 by miraculously dodging several attacks and taking out the opponents three remaining Pokémon all on his own. Absolute madlad of a slug.

One thing I've recently started trying in my prep is setting up my pokemon to abuse their abilities outside of Guts, which I'd already done a ton. For instance, for the Silver fight in Victory Road on my HGSS hardcore nuzlocke, I got my Typhlosion down to 25% through Substitute use, or Blaze range. Gave it the Power Herb for a reason I will talk about when I summarize the battle. Started with Forretress and used 3 Spikes for a certain pokemon in the back. Then sacked the Primo egg Slugma, switched into Typhlosion, and started spamming Blaze boosted Flamethrower. Soon, his Feraligatr came in. After calcs, I knew I needed all 3 Spikes layers to kill Feraligatr with the Power Herb Solar Beam from Typhlosion, allowing me to sweep without losing any major team members

Coincidentally half of his strats in Cynthia's fight were same as PChal's strats: Specs Clefable to one-shot Spiritomb. Leech Seed Roserade against Milotic ( though this is not 100% foolproof, still pretty close. Like, an 8% chance this might not work ) Lowering Garchomp's Speed, damaging it a bit and ...... LET'S JUST TROLL AROUND, SHOULD WE?

I remember when I did my first ever nuzlocke I was willing to try to finish. I got all the way to the elite four, and none of it was luck from the friendship mechanic. Most of the elite four except Burny who almost killed my Bubbles the Gastrodon. When it finally came to Cynthia though I finally lost a Pokémon, and it was my Bronzong named Coin who got mirror coated. When it finally died most of Cynthia’s team was easy. At the end there was one single time friendship mechanic may have helped but it was missing a minus 1 attack dragon claw so it wouldn’t matter. Cynthia still scary as heck though.

Fun fact that shows how absolutely broken the friendship thing in this game is: your Pokémon can live on 1HP when hit with an OHKO move such as Sheer Cold or Fissure through pure willpower.... I don't know if I love it or hate it.

Errr... BDSP is a really easy game to Hardcore Nuzlocke. Sure, Cynthia is by far the hardest champion in the franchise, but she's just ONE potential run-ender, who you have an entire game to prepare for and the ability to cherry-pick your team with dupes clause guaranteed encounters and even the ability to save and choose your Underground encounter (even if you lock yourself to ONE encounter for the ENTIRE Underground, like me). Meanwhile, games like Colosseum, B2W2 and USUM have potential run-enders REPEATEDLY throughout the game, as well as you having MUCH less time and fewer resources to prepare for them. Hell, if you don't ban the Lake Guardians, Uxie alone can 1v5 Cynthia's team with Yawn + SubCM + 1 Psychic type attack as soon as you run through the Spiritomb with another pokemon (people who ban most legendaries still typically allow those with below 600 BST). TLDR: One potential run-ender w/ the entire game to prepare < over a dozen potential run-enders w/ much less time to prep for each Edit: 4EVs in a stat is only +1 at level 100. At lower levels, you need more EVs per stat. L50 = 8 EVs per stat, L25 = 16 EVs per stat, L5 = 80 EVs per stat, etc

Gyarados was all you needed for garchomp. Two ice fangs kill. First one breaks the berry, Gyarados survived any attack that didn't crit, then the second ice fang would do enough to kill. Switching Jaiden in wasn't required
