Most helpful & complete tutorial on the Moza. Ignore all the other reviews/tutorials. Don't forget to ALSO install the Moza app on your Mobile (the manual says sweet nothing about that). I use the Moza with a Honor P10 Lite, Android 9.0.1, Genie app 1.2.1.

Hi! Awesome and helpful series on this gimbal, that sort of encourage me to consider purchasing it. Could you please clarify whether it is possible to manually adjust focus / or zoom using the physical wheel WHILE recording? Besides, do you think the way it zooms or focuses in/out using it is smooth enough to play with it while we record? I haven’t found any commentaries on it anywhere. Thanks a lot!

Hi! Thanks so much! Glad it could be helpful :) You are able to zoom while recording and the zoom was smooth enough for me but of course the physical movement of your hand/finger will introduce some movement most likely. It's not quite as easy to do as a dedicated rolling wheel would be, but it can get you by in a pinch for sure. Hope that helps! Thanks again for watching :)

Great video Scott. So we are now several months into your review and I was wondering if they have finally completed activating all the functions through software an firmware. What troubles me about this gimbal (but I do like what I have seen) is the fact that they brought it to market knowing that it was not ready and to me that does not sit well in regards to their honesty. But with all that I would still like to know where they stand on finaliing this product. I am getting ready to buy in two weeks and right now it is between this and the Vilta M.

I'm really looking forward to you doing a comparison video between the Mini-Mi and VILTA-M!! Those are the two I've been trying to decide between. Can you use either brand's apps without their respective gimbals so that you can have better control frame rate and resolution of the phone's camera, or do you need the gimbal connected to the phone for the app to work?

Hey, thanks for watching! :) I'm not sure I'll actually do a full on comparison of the two because they're very very different in their strong points (small, simple, solid build with the Vilta vs. tons of features/controls, wireless charging but a larger more plasticy body with the Mini-Mi)... both great gimbals though, hard to imagine anyone regretting getting either one unless the app lets them down on Android which I can't really speak to very much myself. Both apps can be used without the gimbals- with the Freevision app you'll just have to hit "connect" and then you'll see an option to enter the camera even though it's not connected; the Moza app will open into the camera straight away, at least in their current versions. I hope that helps but feel free to let me know if you have any more questions! :)

Thank you for your in-depth response! I appreciate the time you took to write it. Even though the Mini-Mi is more plasticy, are the stabilizing motors of good quality? The biggest downside I've been finding for the Mini-Mi is the app. I use an iPhone so I wont have the Android issues, but is Moza continuing to improve the app? I've found reviewers saying the tracking isn't good, but that was from a couple months ago. Is it better now? For the Vilta-M, does the app export your video in the format that it was filmed? In this video, you stated that the Genie app changes that (if I understood that correctly). Thank you for your time, expertise, and help!!

No problem at all :) The motors of the Mini-Mi definitely seem very strong and stable and the performance was very good. The app has been improved (especially for iPhone) quite a lot since it was first released and they do seem fairly dedicated to continuing to improve it, although it's fairly fully functional at the moment. I haven't had any crashes or other strange behavior with it at all in the current and recent versions. For the video format, I'm guessing that you might be referring to the slow motion/frame rates? Both apps are the same in that respect and both will save the video to whichever frame rate/resolution you choose. The only time things get "reformatted" would be when you are in slow motion mode which automatically slows the video down in-camera for you (as opposed to recording 60fps or 120fps video then slowing it down in a 30fps timeline on your computer for example). You can make slow motion video in either way, but the slow motion mode doesn't require any further post work to get the slow motion effect, which is why it's there in addition to the standard higher frame rates. The same would go for time lapse modes where the app will compile all the photos you take into a video file for you in camera in the frame rate/resolution that you choose in the menu. Hmm... that does seem strange. When you choose the bluetooth option on the screen the gimbal doesn't show up in the list? I'd say double check that everything is updated and if so maybe check your phone's bluetooth list (not the app) to see if the gimbal shows up there. I didn't have to do anything special to connect but it might be possible you have to pair your devices before connecting in the app, I've experienced that with other apps before. If none of that works maybe try to contact MOZA to ask about the issue.

Nice review on Moza’s app features Scott! Did you have any problems with the calibration as I’ve read that so many people had problems with their phones spinning out of control after the upgrades? Or is it fixed now. An as far as stabilization between the iPhone X dual OIS and Moza Genies EIS (I presume that’s the antishake), do they balance when doing active movements (fast walking, running, jumping, etc.)?

Thanks so much! I haven't fully tested it to make sure, but I think the problem people are having are when calibrating it with the arm facing the "wrong" direction (wrong for MOZA but the typical direction of all other gimbals). I did that once and had that same result, then repeated the calibration with the arm facing the "right" way (according to the direction of the logo on the side motor) and it was perfect. I'd imagine that's what is giving people problems but I haven't calibrated it since then. As for the stabilization, I'm actually planning to do more tests and comparisons with the Moza and Freevision comparing their app's stabilization and the iPhone's native stabilization very soon. I hope to have that up in a week or two but it will depend a lot on the weather.

@@bdeflorence I think out of the box it's meant to have the motor on the left... it will work when you flip it the other way, which I prefer because of the camera location, but when you do things like calibration it needs to be in the "original" configuration of motor on the left.

I'm not sure if it's been updated or not but when I reviewed this there was no face-specific tracking... you'd just draw a box around the subject and it would track it but there was only one tracking mode.

Hi! Thanks for checking out my video :) For iPhone at least, I'd probably recommend the Vilta in terms of the app. The Mini-Mi isn't too far behind though. Other apps like Filmic Pro would work just fine for recording and using the gimbal but you wouldn't be able to use things that require the phone to take control of the gimbal itself, like motion timelapse or tracking for example. Let me know if that helps! :)

Hi! For me, on an iPhone, I'd save/export them to my iphone photo gallery, then either use airdrop to transfer them or plug into the computer and transfer them that way. Not sure if you're on an android but I think it'd be similar.

Hi! To be honest I've never used the location setting in the app.. but if it's not working I would guess it could be a setting to have to allow the app to access in your camera's settings possibly. If I have a chance, I'll look at mine but that would be my best guess.

Do you need to connect the gimbal to have the 240fps? I tried using the app with no gimbal and it only gives me 720 for a 120fps. 1080 only offers 30fps. Thanks!

It seems like the app has been updated and that's no longer an option unfortunately, connected or not. Not sure why they would do away with it, but I'm not seeing it in there. Also, your phone's actual specs will play a role in what frame rates are available at what resolutions.

Yeah I'm not sure why they would have removed it, seems weird. Also, they don't always have the ability to access every bit of the camera's hardware, so the native camera app may sometimes have better resolutions/frame rates than apps like this

I have bought a Galaxy S6 from ebay, and it has Android 7. It works perfectly with the gimbal. I have told Gudsen that it is Android 8 that Genie has a problem with.

Make sure you have both the app and gimbal firmware up to date- even with the newest app it won't work if the gimbal's firmware isn't update. Hope that helps!

I don't think any other app will communicate with the gimbal meaning you won't get things like tracking or motion time lapse. But otherwise I think you should be able to use something like Filmic Pro which people tend to love. It should still stabilize it, it just lacks the gimbal to phone communication.

When I play back the recording I can only view it in portrait mode there do not seem to be able to change this to landscape in settings. I have a Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 with Android 8. I am using the Mini Mi with Genie, and it will record one clip, but as soon as I start recording second clip the preview screen freezes, the counter starts and never stops until you power off the phone. The resulting clip is corrupted. I have tried it with a friend's iPhone 7 and it works perfectly. Has anyone else experienced this? Gudsen hasn't a clue what is wrong. Why don't they admit the app is not fit for purpose?

I have no idea about the Android side of things to be honest but it's not only Gudsen. From what I've heard it's because of the huge variety of phones using Android- all with different tech and all with different permissions etc, makes it hard to make one app for everything that works across the board (especially one that uses so much of the phone's hardware) ...totally not a tech person but it sounds like it makes sense lol. Anyway- definitely not just Moza for that issue unfortunately.
