Thanks a lot for this post. Hearing the concerto this way helps one appreciate both the basic quality of the music--that it sounds so good even in a piano reduction--and also the greatness of the orchestration of the full version.

Thank you for taking the time to write. It is great music and can sound good with the piano - if the pianist has considerable technique and finesse. Fortunately, Nina Fried has those traits.

Don't get me wrong, I've played this with a clarinetist before and it's incredibly taxing. For the pianist here, voicing could be a little cleaner and tone quality could be more clear. It isn't the sparkling shining sound needed for Mozart and this heavy-handed sound carries throughout the whole piece. To play a Mozart piece well is already hell to begin with. For a pianist to be a whole orchestral part is absolutely crazy. In the end, both the clarinetist and pianist performed with equal virtuosity here.

Is there a way you can send me a file of the sheet music on the screen? I can't seem to find that specific arrangement anywhere online. Thank you for your time

I will try to track it down and send it to you, or send you a link to it. Might take a day or two. Regards, Joe

I discovered why the sheet music is hard to find on IMSLP.org: It is listed as "viola and piano." You can find it by going to IMSLP.org and searching for these words: "mozart clarinet concerto piano viola." Click on "Sheet Music" and then on "arrangements." Scroll down to find this caption: "For piano and viola (Schletterer)" Or, if you prefer email me at joefried1@gmail.com. I will send pdf.
