This is a stupendous performance in every way. The student musicians of the NEC orchestra already play at the professional level. The performance of pianist-conductor Jeffrey Kahane is superb. He plays not only with great brilliance, but also with immense sensitivity to the changing moods of this mature Mozart score; his dynamics are masterful; his gestures are crisp and precise. The result is enchanting and moving. I have never heard a more satisfying performance of this concerto.

I just recently discovered Kahane.....in his perfomance of Dog Heaven - that was fantastic! This, as well, is marvelous, the tempi and spirit are what I expect from Mozartian artists. Well done!

Masterful performance. NEC concerts, often free, are too frequently overlooked by Bostonians needing some artful magic in their lives. And Williams Hall, though acoustically inferior to the amazing Jordan, is an intimate gem.

I never let a perfomance of K482 go by without a comment. For their age the orchestra players were excelent, really on the way to becoming great musicians. The music itself was, as always, simply a joy to listen to. But the pianist? No, too much of himself and no Mozart. Maybe the worst cadenza in this final movement I've heard. Perhaps just my taste but he looked and sounded like a teacher trying to show off to his pupils.

Kahane plays the notes, but does not convey depth, proportion and taste as Amadeus is famous for. This is one of the most difficult things to accomplish in musicianship, even for seasoned players. He needs to practice more the cluster-fuck trills in the 3rd movement.....faster and longer. Good, but he's not Buchbinder

This kind of affected playing technique is so hard to watch. This is why NEC is a second rate school that hasn’t produced a single major soloist in its entire history. Histrionics is not artistry.
