Mozart: Fantasy in F Minor KV 608, piano solo

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's work for mechanical organ, faithfully reproduced as a piano piece. The limited compass of the original instrument notwithstanding, I find that the original score is much to be preferred to the various transcriptions generally played (of Clementi, Busoni, et al.). It sets "some amusing problems of digitation"*.

There is already so much Schubert in this work. I really believe if Mozart had lived 30 more years he would have developed in a similar direction like Schubert.

Compliments for the genuinely wonderful pianism. Just a couple of observations, and a request: if none of the chords are appeggiated, not all of the notes of the original can be played by a soloist (some chords would require 12 fingers…), so a certain amount of editing is inevitable. The second point regards Clamenti’s version: the slow section is in four voices which Clementi reproduces fairly accurately without missing out anything on his arrangement, so it’s only the allegro that falls short in his version. Finally, the request: if Kit had a two-stave version he is willing to share, that would be fabulous, so we could all have a go at this remarkable piece (reading four staves at once is a bit of a challenge!)

I do not have a two-stave version. The notes played in this recording are adapted according to the shape of my own hands (and of course the vagaries of the particular moment). One thing I do not do is to add lower octaves, in the interest of preserving the feel of the original register. This differs from certain piano versions.

This piece starts well and then falls into a black hole of boreness that only a mediocre composer such as Mozart could provide, shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Bach and Beethoven, if I'm being honest I don't even know if he is a better composer than Lady Gaga.

He literally inspired one of the people who said "shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as" so if Mozart isn't mentioned, neither should Beethoven.
