A wonderful performance of this Mozart masterpiece. For me, Julie Fuchs´ rendition of Et Incarnatus est is the highlight, Her command of the sotto voce is amazing.

My sincerest thanks to all those involved in this magnificent performance: the soloists Julie Fuchs, Ann Hallenberg, Benjamin Hulett, Markus Werba; the conductor Laurence Equilbey; and the members of the Orchestra Insula and the Choir Accentus. This is by far the greatest rendition of Mozart's Great Mass in C minor I have had the delight of listening to!

No one mentions anything about the duet or trio. Some of my favorite moments 18:40 - 18:46 , 28:19 - 28:30 There's something so desperate and plaintive in them both. Never fails to move me.

While many comment on a "classy" performance, nobody seems to notice that this is a mass-set to music, of course, but still a mass-and one does not clap after a liturgical performance. I suggest people watch Bernstein's version with just the bells sounding at the end and the audience in solemn silence, or Karajan's performance of Mozart's "Coronation" mass in C Major, K.317 with Pope John Paul II presiding and carrying out the rite with Karajan transfixed at the end as the C Major chord vanishes. Now that is class. (I should emphasize that I am atheist). Having said that, this is a very good and at times excellent musical performance.

I am unsure wheter this could be considered a liturgical performace. Altough it is a mass set to music I believe that unless the rites are performed it shouldn't properly classifie as a liturgical performace and therefore it would be ok to clap. Tough if you think not please ahoq me, for I speak on mostly an assumption.
@MateusVIII
@MateusVIII 9 жыл бұрын
Indeed, after checking with my violin teacher who plays at an orchestra when those masses are performed by orchestras and the rituals aren't performed you are supposed to clap as any performace by an orchestra, it is not a liturgical performace.

Thank you for sharing this - it is wonderful. Mozart perfectly expressed the right emotions for the message of this music. At the beginning, the weight of the entire world is on your shoulders... and you are crying out to God for forgiveness... not just mercy. I don't need a movie to tell me that music like this, and the ability to create it, are a gift from Him. That is my belief.

Other than the perfection of the Soprano who sang this music in the movie Amadeus, the delicacy of this Soprano's phrasing, her carefully placed trills, and turns are spot on, and perfect! And when she sings the Kyrie, starting at 2:51 to 5:55....the pureness and absolute beauty of it...it's moving evidence that G-d really spoke through Mozart.

Just watched and listened to this performance again. Extraordinarily convincing. Most impressed with Equilbey!! I'm about to embark on writing program notes for this work, and it was this performance I chose to hear as I took listening notes to myself. Again I'm struck with the need to thank Baron von Swieten!! The things past and future come together here! The slow introduction before the chorus sings the first Kyrie, just as in the Bach H-moll; the dotted Qui tollis ever so like Handel's Surely he hath born our griefs are from the past von Swieten showed Mozart (though I doubt that he saw the H-moll). And then the "Altissimus" is a foretaste of the Don Giovanni ensemble writing 100 K numbers later. Well, bravi all 'round!!
