@@vully70 Fine, but if I do, I’m not including the secco recitatives; they’re not even by Mozart, and they’re so heavily abridged in the recording that it becomes a pain to edit.

Idomeneo is an absolutely gorgeous opera but also absolutely requires a great production and singers (especially for Idamante and Ilia), otherwise I agree that it is dull. Probably my favourite Mozart opera but I agree that it can be done very poorly. Still think at its best it is better than Tito, although I like Tito a lot as well.

This is a weak point in all of baroque or classical opera. Apparently the public then didn't mind for almost 200 years.

That is right. Mozart had his pupil Sussmayer compose the recitatives.

@@obrcht5742 I don't find Mozarts' own recitatives better. I guess the public then didn't care anyway about it and so every composer treated the recitative as sth that had to be done. Only Gluck took more care , often his recitatives are better than the Arias.
