Craig Barron it’s a charming little overture that breathes similar air to Figaro overture but tends to get forgotten in the concert hall..

Great work from the Timpanist. Got to love that first note. Its always a shame when you can't quite hear the full glory of the Timpani because other instruments are covering up the sound.

"Cosi fan Tutti" is my favorite Mozart overture (OK, it's neck and neck with "The Magic Flute" overture.) I love the way the flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon answer each other; it's the sweetest, most charming phrase(es) in Classical music! I only wish the overture were longer...Very nice performance/recording by Sinfonia Rotterdam. Also, very cool to see a female typanist (exceedingly rare)

i agree although i prefer this overture primarily because of the seductive drive it has which hints at the sexual shenanigans in the opera itself.

As someone who loves operas it's always a pity that the orchestra is hidden though the players do a tremendous work, A performance on stage, like this one, is absolutely wonderful. The combination of music, individual instrument and facial expression show how strongly players and conductors have identified themselves with the composition. Absolutely great the direction of the camera, look, one female violin player is even smiling, showing a diffferent inner approach to the music. Last but not least, performances like this show the different styles conductors apply. It's wonderful to watch Conrad von Alphen leading the orchestra in a way that one feels the opera itself must be full of joy and happiness....and, surely, of love. Greetings to Rotterdam from Germany.

Apparently it was Wagner who first hid the Orchestra away!

@@matthewhubble9549 Hi matthew, thank you. The orchestra in Bayreuth is below the stage, quite extrodinary, but the sound is magnificent, however, the members of the orchestra have a very hard job, the conditions are crucial. Concerning technique Wagner was ahead of his time. I was more focused on the direction of the camera. Sitting in row 10 it will still be hard to concentrate on the players. - wish you all the best - The Rotterdam Sinfonia will perform in Cologne next year with a different conductor. In the Philarmonie Köln one has a splendid view at the Orchestra.

The opening Adagio is simultaneously moving and sardonic, with its anticipation of the men's angry pronouncement of 'Così fan tutte!' ('They're all like that!') just before the finale of the opera. Far from being a superficial farce or a prurient sex comedy, this work is a bittersweet depiction of betrayal and disillusion.

When I close my eyes and listen to this it makes me think of the glory and splendour of a forest, and all of nature that that image conjures up….as if I’m there…it makes me think of following a pathway looking up at birds soaring in the air and swooping from tree to tree, and with the crescendos I’m picturing huge strong oak trees…. So wonderful to lose yourself in this beautiful piece of music. Pure escapism ❤

I heard a story that after finishing Cosi Fan Tutte and just before its first performance, Mozart realized he'd forgotten to write an overture. So he quickly composed one in his head. With no time to write out a full score, he wrote out the orchestral parts from memory so the orchestra could play it. Then only later did he write out the full score. Does anyone know if this amazing story is true?
@jamesbrianengay30103 жыл бұрын
After a night party, a friend told Mozart that the next morning is the premiere of the opera and he forgot to compose the overture. So Mozart wrote the overture in the morning of the premeire. That overture is from "Don Giovanni" not Cosi Fan Tutte.

My dear, It was the Don Giovanni's overture. Mozart had not forgotten to write it. He was.... late and tired. He used to compose overtures at the very end, like a synthetis. The music was already in his mind, fully, clear and precise. He just had to copy his brain on paper. So the night before the premiere, he told his wife to give him some punch and keep him awake. He composed several hours then, after midnight, he deeply fell asleep. Constance let him rest and awaked him at five AM. Then, Wolfgang wrote the end of the overture as quick as possible because the copists might come at his home at 7 AM... But, he was W. Mozart ! So he could achieve the work. In the evening took place this premiere that Mozart conducted himself + the harpsicord part (as usual) and the VERY GOOD musicians of the orchestra performed the overture "a prima vista" (without any rehearsal ! ). Please listen this overture looking his manuscript. Not a mistake on the paper... From his brain onto the paper. It it so moving, and glorious. Best regards kzbin.info/www/bejne/ap-wgn6GZ9B4bZo
