Some music might have been more dexterous but no one can touch Mozart when it comes to melodic melancholy that exudes soothing creativity to cause tears of joy due to the beauty.

This performance gets into the soul of Mozart in a way perhaps only a lifetime of performing the whole Piano repetoire could teach. A lovely document of Richter's final concert.

Now I know why Richter was so famous. It took me many year of watching and listening on KZbin. Like everything else, it takes time. Here I like to compliment the Japanese orchestras. They are so good because the Japanese are a very disciplined people.

Maintenant les musiciens sont des "bruiteurs", ne font que du bruit. Par bonheur de nombreux interprètes, notamment asiatiques, mettent nos classiques, nos romantiques en valeur.

With a beautiful orchestra and a wonderful grand piano this music cant compare to todays music. Todays music doesn't even come close to this wonderful harmonious piece of music .

A great video for classical enthusiasts, with one of the final performances by an aged but still brilliant Sviatoslav Richter playing with the Japan Shinsei Orchestra, conducted by Karl Engel in Mozart's PIano Concerto No. 18 in B major K456 - 1994.

Excelente interpretacion. Con o sin partitura no interesa....magistral Interpretacion de uno de mis conciertos de Mozart preferidos. En USA no descance hasta conseguirlo en DVD. Felicitaciones..

After some memory lapses from the middle 70-ies, Richter played with score be-front of him. Nothing strange- he was born in 1915. Most of the today pianists at age 25, even with score, are unable to play like the 75yrs old Richter. Most of the today "big" piano performers ( like Brendel, Barenboim) at their 60-ies are unable to play like SR in his final year - to play like him, when SR was 55 - impossible- in the 1972, when SR was 67, he recorded the WTC in Schloss Klessheim near Salzburg - nobody surpass this until today. The SR Mozart is sublime, like his Chopin too.

Classical music refreshes the soul, pacifies the mind and energizes the body. Depression could be treated with classical music much better than taking medication. I am speaking about a personal and prolonged experience.

Richter was in no way a "showman" so the issue of score or not would have been utterly irrelevant to him. What matters is the music and that is what he gives us. I particularly like the way he is not afraid to give Mozart weight allowing some fortes and fortissimos where other pianists often substitute mezzo fortes in terms of today's ears.

those who claim that Richter is sight-reading the piece probably have no idea how it truly is performing with an orchestra publicly. You can't perform that immaculouly without the score in mind if you are under that kind of pressure.

This is the best Mozart playing I've heard recently - orchestra and piano both. I've been hearing a lot of performances lately that try to make a romantic out of Mozart. It works better to let the music just play itself and then add the nuances and subtleties. Amazing that Richter's aging fingers can do exactly that. And the orchestra adds a lovely unobtrusive backdrop.

I absolutely agree. Classical European Music - nothing like this on the whole wide world existed somewhere else, never has been made and never will be made somewhere else. only sad thing is - we dont compose this sort of music any more. Nowadays we're poor. Instead of culture we have, well, commercials for instance...

Richter was considered one of the greatest virtuosi of the 20th century. He was 79 here, but his age was probably not the cause of his using a score as he had over 80 memorised programmes; I believe he felt it improved his focus on the music .(Liszt began the fetish of playing 'sans music; but. tf conductor and orchestra have music then why not the soloist. There's nothing wrong with his technique, either, as can be seen here. Gilels considered Richter to be the superior player, by the way.

@richardbrown7949 жыл бұрын
All these comments are making me nuts. He just wanted to make sure there were no mistakes and his age was a factor. His perfection is assumed and he made sure of this until his dying day, and Mozart would be pleased with his playing. Well I sure am.

Richter played with scores long time before he died. This NEVER affected his performances. Perahia and Uchida togther don't match Richter's genius. His memory was brilliant. By the end of his life, he had 80 different solo recitals in his repertoire, not counting chamber music. This man was a half God. So stop judging and listen.

Yes, true about Mozart being only, the ONE and only, most gifted musicians in history. He was sent to us by who & what nobody knows; but if I had to choose between a historical Jesus & histories Mozart, I'd have to, & with out having to consider the comparison with too much thought, say that Mozart's impact on the world as a whole sure as hell saturated our planet with more good upon the human family then did the 'possibly' existing 'Jesus Christ'. Unless you prefer war & bias to beauty & awe
