Piano Concerto No. 5 in D major, K. 175, was composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1773, at the age of 17. It is Mozart's first fully original piano concerto; his previous efforts were based on works by other composers. The work is scored for two oboes, two horns, two trumpets, timpani, and strings and was the only concerto with trumpets and timpani until No. 13, K. 415.
Note that only the first and last movements contain parts for trumpets and timpani. The three movements of the concerto are listed as follows:
1. Allegro
2. Andante ma un poco adagio
3. Rondo: Allegro
Unfolding with two whole notes, Mozart tackles a problem in the finale -- how to introduce contrapuntal elements in a sonata form movement -- that he was to revisit several more times. Mozart later composed a more tuneful rondo finale for this concerto, thinking it would be more popular with the Viennese audience than the original third movement. (Rondo in D, K. 382)
This concerto was a favorite of Mozart's and is mentioned in many of his letters. He played the piece at concerts until the year of his death.

And so, at 17, after four warm-ups, starting at around age 11 (and the 4th one is damned close to being this good) he comes into his own, and raises the bar for everyone that follows. The word "genius" almost trivializes this.

Love this #5 . Half tone faster and higher but all the same beautiful. It draws energy & emotional feeling from and to our very soul. Mozart's finest composition, it was a favorite of Mozart's and is mentioned many times by himself even in written statements. Among dozens at same level (vg # 17, 21..) from Mozart's unique genius still and forever very much alive.

Hello, I am fairly sure that this recording is Sir Neville Marriner (conductor), conducting The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, with pianist Alfred Brendel. There is a great CD collection called "Mozart Piano Concertos: Complete Mozart Edition". It is a boxed set of 12 discs, including all of Mozart's piano concertos, and is performed by the artists mentioned above. In my opinion, it is one of the best recordings of the piano concertos; it is just superb!
@RequiemAeternam01
@RequiemAeternam01 2 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right! It was originally released on Philips as a 13-LP box set, then later on Philips Classics in different volumes, then in 1991 as a 12 CD box set as Volume 7 of the infamous Complete Mozart Edition. It includes Ingrid Haebler, with the Capella Academica Wien for the piano concertos nos. 1-4, and Ton Koopman with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra for the 3 Harpsichord Concertos after J.C. Bach, K. 107. The set was later released in 2000 for the Complete Mozart Compact Edition as Box No. 4, and finally in 2011 as a 12 CD deluxe box set on Decca Classics.

many famous composers never reached this level - let alone amateurs. No need to mention Mozart's age here - it is better than some of his later piano concertos.
@joshparker5259
@joshparker5259 2 жыл бұрын
@@LPCLASSICAL 100% I think it's actually better than most of his later piano concerto's. I dont know why mabey because he had a bigger time gap to work on this (6ish years since his last piano concerto) and so he put more effort into this one or that this was his 1st "real piano concerto" which he needed to be good to place a great 1st impression for him
@LPCLASSICAL
@LPCLASSICAL 2 жыл бұрын
@@joshparker5259 I don't think it's better than most of his later piano concertos. But I prefer it say to no 11, 12, 14 maybe 16. It is contemporary with his symphony no 25 (g minor) which is also a great work - so he was capable of special music well before he really matured.
@joshparker5259
@joshparker5259 Жыл бұрын
@@LPCLASSICAL in my opinion, mozarts piano concerto 21, 1st movement (not 2nd) is the best like there are so many moments in that movement that are out of this world like how in the hell did he make that 250 years ago! And the conclusion that happens right after the mediocre cadenza hits you is so flipping good.
@LPCLASSICAL
@LPCLASSICAL Жыл бұрын
@@joshparker5259 I agree. In fact it was the first mvt of K467 that got me into Mozart big time. The orchestral introduction is vast - if you compare it with the primitive little piano concerti of Haydn and others.
