My kinda Mozart! Schnabel has the same commitment to the whole phrase that Hofmann has. Also he emphasizes inner melodies and always outlines the bass. This is full-blooded Mozart. Schnabel's Viennese singing tone enriches and enlivens everything. Bravo!

I was 2 or 3 years old when this studio recording was made. Couldn’t quite appreciate it then (!), but now I appreciate every wondrous moment of it. Thank you. As Tobias Mostel has written, this is “my kinda Mozart!”

I didn't know this recording, thanks. Nothing precious about Schnabel's Mozart! I especially love the way the left hand is always audible. Thanks! (It's interesting that Schnabel's near contemporary, Edwin Fischer, never recorded this masterpiece.)

Lebhafte und dynamische Interpretation dieser fein komponierten Klaviersonate im inspirierenden Tempo mit klar artikuliertem Anschlag und völlig effektiver Dynamik. Echt unvergleichlicher Pianist!

Schnabel was one of the last truly 'honest' performers. He recorded something a few times and then picked the best one. He didn't cut and paste like pianists today, so you hear a 'live' performance from him. The others produce sterile, non-human performances that even they can't duplicate live on a stage.

Generally it’s not the pianists who choose to do this, it’s the record companies

This is robust Mozart - not precious/cutesy/"ninnie-pinnie". Puts all the other over-thinking artists to shame.
