I listen to Mozart everyday to combat all the negativity and stress in the world right now. His music uplifts my spirits as no other composer can compare!!

I agree wholeheartedly! And the violin and piano sonatas (Grumiaux & Haskil), in fact everything he has written is a divine gift to help us on this difficult journey. And that was by design just as Bach brought us heavenly music.

I agree that it works better for winds. As a side note there is a "compromise" version, an arrangement by Heinz Holliger, for oboe and string quartet. The Beethoven Octet for winds is also vastly superior to the string quintet version, compositionally as well. There is also a setting of the string quintet version rearranged for winds, but the original Op. 103 is still the best.

I like this better than the string one, because of richer expressions by woodwinds.
@IrizarryBrandon9 жыл бұрын
Masao Aiga Amen. I marvel at how the woodwinds on the one hand impart a flighty, ethereal nature to the work, yet the music can sustain itself without the aid of steely, imposing string timbres that give that shock-and-awe effect to, say, a symphony. Also, gotta love the sonata recapitulation of the first movement. :)

This serenade has a dramatic tone which is even more obvious in its transcripion for string quintet. This is always linked to C minor in Mozart's works. Excellent rendition.
@gerardbegni28064 жыл бұрын
@Flerèrhjan KrinegeerYou are erfectly right. Mozart uses these tones on purpose: for him, G, D (do not forget the concerto K. 466) and C express tragedy under different aspects.
@gerardbegni28064 жыл бұрын
@Flerèrhjan Krinegeer Dear friend, I do not agree with you. Of course, some ""tragic" pieces by Mozart (we should better define what we mean by that word). are in other keys (namely the Adagio for piano in H minor). But most of the prominent Mozartian critics underline the special meaning of these tonalities in Mozart's works. Read for instance the very subtle analysis of J.F. Hocquart. In addition, do not forget the the keys with three deisis or bémols have a masonic meaning for Mozart, which was led to revisit for instance the meaning of C minor, for instance in ther Funeral masonic Ode and above all the dark and contrapunctical choral of armoured men in the Magic flute just before the apotheosis in E flat a major. I so not agree with you on the meaning of the medium movement of the A major concerto. This work has a typical meaning, and the slow movement is rather melancholic by contrast to the very "positive" meaning of the outer movements, which has alo so a precise masonic meaning (many new and interesting books were recently written about the masonic music of Mozart. In the first sequence of this slow movement, note the cadenza in F# minor. It includes a "neapolitan sixth" ( a minor sith over the subdominant as bass, wf hich is typical from a plagal-type harmonic movement), a quite classical harmony which is generally .used in melancholic baroque, classical and romantic movements, but not in tragic ones, which prefer using a diminished seventh.
