Great!!! Bravo!!! Decided today to listen to big shots playing this concert. David Oistrakh, Yasha Heifetz, Isaac Stern, Gidon Kremer (interesting interpretation), Yehudi Menuchin (awful - I dont understand how he was held to such a high esteem - probably just had a good character - it helps :)). I was not satisfied with any and after all, saw this new name and decided to listen. To me, it is the best Mozart 5th I heard - very clean and done with a good taste! Also his instrument is exceptional - the sound is magical - I checked it out - he plays a 1741 Guarneri del Gesu that once belonged to Kreisler. I am wondering if this is the same instrument Kreisler played while recording double Bach concert together with Tzimbalist. It was my favorite recording of this concert and the sound of Kreisler's instrument played a major role in it.

You clearly haven't listened to the young Menuhin. There hasn't been more expressive and touching romantic playing on the violin. Never heard better. Check the 2nd movement of his schumann concerto. Second best in that piece would Szeryng I believe. But Menuhin was a God.

The Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major, K. 219, often referred to by the nickname "Turkish", was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1775 (aged at 19); and premiering during the Christmas season that year in Salzburg (home town). It follows the typical fast-slow-fast musical structure. Mozart composed the majority of his concertos for string instruments from 1773 to 1779, but it is unknown for whom, or for what occasion, he wrote them. Unfortunately the conductor does not know the tempo which Znaider wants in the first movement (compare the tempo in the exposition by the orchestra and the soloist's tempo after the adagio bars! It is not written in alla breve, Mr Salemkour, but it sounds like it...) Generally he brings nervousness into the performance while Znaider does the opposite. A most enjoyable violin sound and (apart from some questionable glissando) a great interpretation by Znaider.

I don't know... frank Peter zimmermans felt so fluent and free. This one gets slowed down a lot and he doesn't finish the vibratos a lot and some of the techniques he uses sound so weird like how he cuts a long note short. But still talented

Probably a custom made chinrest. His violin is the Ex-Kreisler Guarneri del Gesu from 1741, once owned and played by Fritz Kreisler.
