Latest in a series of using the Mozzi synthesis library for Arduino. This time to make an arpeggio explorer toy for non-musicians, and a test platform for my Arpy Arduino arpeggiator library.

Hey Tod. I got this working great on a XIAO. However it is worth pointing out that I had to down grade the Adafruit Tiny USB library to version to 0.10.5 to get it to compile. Didnt work with the latest version. Came up with error "cannot declare variable 'usb_midi' to be of abstract type 'Adafruit_USBD_MIDI' " and also another one to do with HID. I am using 1.8.13 version of the Arduino IDE.

Ah you're right. Looks like Seeed hasn't updated their Boards package to support the refactoring of TinyUSB that happened six months or so ago. Sorry about that! You can also take out all the MIDI stuff if you're operating stand-alone. I should make that a switch so other people don't fall down this rabbit hole.

Okay, I updated "eighties_arp" in the repo to by default not need any USB MIDI stuff so it works on XIAO straight-away without needing to jump through the hoops you did. Thanks for pointing this out!

@@todbot Thanks for your response. Will make it better for XAIO users. I do have a QT PY but couldn't work out how to install the drivers for it

I just built one quickly with an Arduino Uno. Easy to build and a lot of fun!!! Thanks a lot for sharing!!! It is great!! Is their an Uno version with the midi out in the code? I see Mozzi midi in the code but I am guessing the rest was taken out. Did not see anything in GitHub. Also working on scale/key for Arpy so it can be more useful in songs(A mixture of Major and minor).

I don't have a hardware MIDI example (as opposed to USB MIDI) in the repo currently, but the code is almost entirely the same. Check out the Mozzi repo's "examples/11.Communication/Mozzi_MIDI_Input" for how to add hardware MIDI.

@@todbot Thanks for the quick reply!! I tried hooking up a 5 pin midi to it right while I was putting it together. Then I read the code and did not see the midi functions in the code. I have just added midi to another sketch/project. I will try on this too. Just purchased my first Picos. I will have to try some of your other projects with them. Thanks again. Much appreciated!!

This is amazing, I've been looking for something like this for my 2 year old daughter to mess around with. Is there any reason this would not run on a standard Arduino dev board?
@todbot
@todbot 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes works on Arduino Uno (what I assume you're talking about) with just a few changes. I've put an example up on the github as "eighties_arp_uno". You can see it in action on MLE_Online's twitter video : twitter{dotcom}/MLE_Online/status/1484744588719902725

I tried this out using a nano worked fine except the third button to switch to square wave does it need the square oscils added?
@todbot
@todbot 2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, the sketch in the github should work as-is (changing the pin numbers to match your Nano), the square wave table is included. But there may not be enough memory for everything. I'm not sure, I've not tried out ATmega328-sized (Nano) boards on these experiments
