All social media comments? Or only some? Because you can get some social media comments where someone will post your address online and then threaten to come to your address and do XYZ. So should that not be policed? What about online comments where someone starts taking the piss out of someone for dying and they start then bombarding that person with defaced images of their deceased? What about comments online where they create new accounts and spam that account constantly in order to get a reaction? Why should people go online and have no protection against people like this? The police amazingly dont have a division just for your facebook and twitter comments. There is someone reporting that comment and sending it to the police. The police then assign that crime report to a division thats sole purpose is to deal with low volume crime reports. "you can just block them". Yeah I dont think anyone wants to spend 4/5 hours of their day blocking an account that repeaitdly adds them "dont be on social media". Why let them win? Why cant someone enjoy having a social media account which may keep them in contact with someone across the world? Sure there are other ways of contacting them, but why should someone forefit that privalage?

I was a Cop from 1987. The Police took a lead from the Home Office and deployed their resources as they saw locally, targeting local crime. They also decided who to prosecute, who not to prosecute, what was a crime and what wasn't a crime. Ultimately DISCRETION was still very available to officers from Constable rank up to Ch/Supt rank in that they emplyed their powers to acheive the right outcome. Then Tony Blair came along, and gave the public the right to decide what was a crime, He also forced manadatory standards of investigation on the job. Forcing Cops to waste time making enquiries about crimes that would be almost impossible to detect. If there is no evidence at a scne of crime, that is mostly known from about 2 minutes surveying the scene. Then came mental health and missing persons, and the right of families to sue the Police in these cases for failings to find loved ones etc. So now the situation is that every resource is thrown at every job. Huge amounts of Cops/time & money wasted on missing persons that going missing twice a week and more. Mental health, another chestnut for Policing, a dismantled NHS Mental health system leaving no cover, means the Police pick it all up. Thousands of hours chasing people who are in a lot of instances just a drunken nuisance who know what words to drop into a 999 call. The job has lost the ability to say "No", And is terrified of poor media coverage and litigation. Thank you Tony Blair and Theresa May. Policing social media is yet again another complete waste of time. Politicians need to keep their noses and fingers away from Policing, and let the Forces go back to Policing areas with autonomy. Build trust, properly resourced, accessible. It isnt rocket science and countless politicians have broken it.. Look at the state of it now .................. I rest my case.

I lived in south London unless a crime was caught on cctv & there was a witness there’s no point of ringing police. My nephew got robbed for he’s phone my nephew see the guy came out he’s house before he done the street robbery yet the police couldn’t charge him for anything.
