Good Day. I wanted to say that I love all your gun builds on your channel. I really need your help. If you could, could you share a blueprint and what metal you used to make your HK Flat bending jig? Thanks for your response.

Your welds didn't look terrible. I am really excited for you having a home built mp5. You are turning into quite the manufacturer. Lol

For anyone that cant find a flat bending jig, I was able to bend my flat with a piece of unistrut and some screws for guide rods and a 20mm steel rod. I lined up the flat and drilled all the holes to line it up and then I put nuts on the guide bolts on top the 20mm rod and slowly turn the nuts so it pulls evenly through the unistrut. Just got my bolt carrier group in the mail and did a drop test and it goes through great. I've searched the forums looking for dimensions to weld a jig, but couldn't find anything. Saw this mentioned so I gave it a go. I know it sounds janky, but I promise you it works.

2 notes on your welding, other than its not bad for your admitted skill level- 1) if you arent running one already, invest in a remote pedal for your machine. It will give you a lot more control over how much amperage you put into your work piece and how quickly, and it will eliminate the need to touch your tungsten to your work piece, leaving your tungsten cleaner and sharper over time. 2) a shade 10 lens cover for your camera will allow viewers to watch you weld and get a better idea of what gets welded where. Love the videos and I'm hoping to conquer an AK74 when my work area is complete

Decent video. I've built about 5 of them and I'm a terrible welder. I had a buddy come over and assist with the welding. I had problems with burn through and one think I did, that could help others, was to turn a solid copper rod as a heat sink. It performed two purposes with regards to the cocking tube, one is it assisted with alignment and second it kept the welding process from burning through in case I got a little too squirely with the amperage. I have a few MP5 tools like that which I've done.

You should check the actual clearance between the bolt carrier and the Id of the receiver. They frequently are a little loose and a simple die that straddles the side grooves of bent flat can draw them in for a even better fit. If you have the front stub of the original receiver, use it for comparison before you cut out the trunnion but after carefully removing the charging handle tube.

Hey, can you please tell me the diameter of the center round and the distance in between the two bottom rounds. I would like to make a version of the jig. I have two flats. I started bending one just my measurements of a finished one. I have two or 3 flats I want to bend. Thanks P!

Are you considering building a cetme c? I have the same jig and am trying to figure out how to use the jig correctly on the flat, since the ejection port does not allow the flat to lay flat On the jig. Any insight on how to line this up would be extremely helpful!

Why cut the tabs off? Love the build keep us posted.
@CaptainShuffles4 жыл бұрын
I'm no expert, but I believe the tabs are sacrificial. After the flat is folded into shape, they would only be in the way, right? I'm also assuming he wants an easier track to weld the cocking tube on too; maybe the tab would interfere with fitting the tube in the first place.
@shawnwillis75613 жыл бұрын
The tabs are only there to align the flat with the jig. After it's bent, they don't serve a purpose and are in the way

IF YOU ARE DOING A BUILD, DO THE MAGWELL RIVETS FIRST!!!!!! The shell deflector is easy, but the magwell was a huge pain in the ass to do if you bend it first. The magwell rivets wont affect the bend. Trust me

I checked hkparts .net a little while ago and they had flat jigs in stock. I couldnt find any when I bent my flat so I just used the unistrut method. It worked great for me and its a whole lot cheaper.
@jaq86573 жыл бұрын
What size unistrut did you use?
@shawnwillis75613 жыл бұрын
@@jaq8657 I got a 2 foot precut section from home depot. I think it measured 7/8ths on the inside of the channel. Just look up "mp5 unistrut jig" on Google and it'll show the dimensions in images. Home depot only had 2 sizes. One shallow and one deep. Get the deeper one.

I agree with you… you are a terrible welder lol. Thing is EVERYONE starts out a terrible welder and at least your getting your toes wet! I ain’t ragging on you, I want to see you succeed man! Some tips… first things first, clean the heck out of everything (acetone, dedicated abrasive for that specific material, then acetone again). Those flats are around .060 and for a beginner that has no torch/heat control… that’s a recipe for failure. If you have good fit up, you shouldn’t need any filler to tack your joints. I’d set the machine to 65-70 and full blast that pedal for 2-3 seconds. If you dip your tungsten, do not weld with it until it has been broken off and resharpened! Tungsten grinding angle, grain of grind etc makes a difference! Your fit up was so good that I wouldn’t have even used filler. Fusion weld the joint at around 50-55amps. On something that thin and not having good heat control, I’d fusion weld half an inch then move to the opposite end of the part. Take your time and be comfortable!
