@@MusicianParadise mini-pads and a bit more limited connectivity would work for me (I'm fine with mini-jacks for audio & MIDI I/O) if it can be smaller and lighter than the MPC One. And if I had an MPC mini, the Key 37 would be my home-studio/desktop all-in-one setup. I like the fact the keyboard of the Key 37 is aftertouch like on the bigger one.

I hear what you’re saying about the sweet spot of a 37-key keyboard. I still own a Korg Triton Pro 76. There has always been something special to me about 76 keys on a synth/keyboard controller that doesn’t have weighted keys. I’ll never get rid of it. My biggest gripe about AKAI’s keyboard units are their KEYBED/KEYS. They should be a higher quality than they are. 💯

Great first release of a 37 key version that's very functional given it's limited real estate. Can't replace my X, but I'm glad to see it! And then price is extremely competitive IMO.

While I have two 88 key stage pianos, 61 keys is my sweet spot. The lowest and highest octaves are rarely used. Won't want a stage piano without 88 keys. The MPC 61 is perfect for me for composition. I can MIDI in a stage piano if I ever needed more. 37 keys is bare bones but you can make it work if you have to. Glad they made this for those who wanted it.

This is a great alternative to the one for those buying into the ecosystem. Own the live 2, so I won’t be needing this. I plugin my midi keyboard when I need keys. But if they do a mini keys 25 mpc, I’ll be all over that.

Yeah buddy!! Nice - I would def purchase this if I did not already have and love my Key 61 - that SD card slot situation is an easy one to get past. I DO LOVE the red though!! Man if I could get it with AKAI and get one to demo that'd be DOPE AS HELL!! Unfortunately - I don't see that happening (still getting my KZbin level up). Well I hope you enjoy it man!! I thought they might leave the SSD Slot and 4GB of Ram... But NOPE hahaha - hey that's cool. I still really like it and would not kick it out of the studio ;) maybe once I figure out what's happening with my employment situation... But seriously capable device, and I have to say that since I got my MPCs - production has changed for me and my process has been different. I love these devices 100%.

I got the Fantom 06 when everyone was looking at the key 61. I was the first key 37 order today according to inmusic. Don’t necessarily care for all the bells and whistles since I have all the other 2.0 MPC gear except the key 61 and refreshes. I have 2 TB of space in everything that lets you, including the force. I was fine with having expansions on a SD card on the One. Don’t use about 80% of the .wav library I have. People complain about no XLR…bro never even thought about using it on the live II, X, or force. TRS for everything. Not going to record artist on it. Interface, pres, and daw for that. Some complain about ram. I still have yet to reach the ceiling. Point is everyone wants their MPC to be ready for any scenario, but often them scenarios never come. Processor on the other hand 🤔

I am not looking to get another MPC at this time but… the Key 37 does look very nice. I have the MPC X SE and I hook it up to a keyboard or a 49 key synth. On my Ultamate stand I get the same kind of flow as one of the MPC key. I love my MPC X SE. it will have to be something very significant to get me to buy a different MPC.

Disc streaming and greater polyphony are the next technology hurdles. The processing power exists already. But for now, I see little reason to even move from the X, which is now 7 years old.

Theres a big gap in the market for a sampling workstation with a keyboard… remember that word? “Workstation”? Thats a good all in one solution for people with “casual” keyboard skills that are essential to their workflow. Nah I'm good with my Live 2 and MPK Mini PLUS 37 Key midi keyboard. If I were just getting a MPC I would take a look, but like you said, no SATA drive bay is wack. It's $200 more than the MPC One so it should have come with one. Also it would have been nice if they upped it to 4GB RAM seeing as how they are going to be adding Stems and who knows what else to standalone in the near future. This doesn't seem future proof for something coming out RIGHT NOW...Great review as always Ave. Peace!

Me personally. I either need my keyboard all the way small for travel or chillin on the couch with the laptop or all the way big for the main station. This down the middle size isn't for me. Yhese all in one units are dope though, used to have to midi chain and plug in a bunch of equipment

I was just thinking about you and this thing as I walked in to work this morning lol. The pads not lining up with the screen has me unreasonably frustrated XD I have an Arturia Keylab 49 Mk2. But if they made a Keylab 37 I'd have been all over it lol (but I don't think they really can very easily). 37 key monosynths have a rich and cherished tradition, it's a good keyboard size; just enough room to dip up or down out of an octave/scale without too much space.

I have a midimix for my "live 2" and it works fine plugged in for hardware mode, except there is no paging and illuminations don't work on the buttons, like when plugged into a PC. Still it's 9 faders, 24 rotaries and 16 buttons to assign to most any function.
