Okay.. I'm man enough to admit that I've been confused about the grid, so I stayed away from it, but this is great information! I might attempt to try it out after watching this, God bless 🙏🏾✊🏾💚

That q-link tip is a good reminder that it's there. I find their choice of shortcuts in the Grid editor to be weird in that sense: why are the loop point knobs hidden on page four? It's easily the most useful knobs in this mode. I wish these could be customized so you could decide to have them on the first page, along with e.g. Nudge and maybe Transpose. That would make it so much more useful. One tip I use the most that you didn't include is the physical copy button. It's incredibly simple and useful: select a bunch of notes and hit the Copy button and it will immediately duplicate those notes and place them to the right of your selection. Very useful for quickly copying a phrase without having to go into the tedious Copy Bars menu. The knob mode conveniently changes to Nudge too so you can quickly adjust the placement of the copy.

Stay at it. I come from the floppy disc era. The 2000 specifically. The mpc one in standalone is all you need. My best tip is- you gt understand sequence’s cuz that’s the mpc workflow. You can do everything in one sequence, mute every track but… say your drums. Send it too your computer or whatever you use. You can also just record it and save it to your sd card and 💥! You got yourself a banga!! Good luck fam!!!
@PHeMoX Жыл бұрын
@@discowolf25 I would recommend building up sequences with lots of sequences for your intro, break, refrain, solo, outro etc. and put them together using in song Mix. It's also possible to convert that song into one long sequence, if you want to for example have longer audio tracks recorded on top (think vocals, dubs, solos that span across several different sequences etc.). It can be a quite powerful all-in-one indeed. And I exclusively use it stand-alone. The PC software sucks. It's slow, it doesn't work half of the time. But stand-alone works fine.

@@malobeats Oh, awesome. That’s the way I’ve always preferred to sequence. A while back I wanted to upgrade from the MPC 5000 to the MPC Live, and at the time you either had to play notes in live or use the touchscreen to put them on the grid.

Two questions: Is there a way to start with my favorite quantize setting when i begin a new project? It´s so weird and it´s the first MPC I have encountered this (have the whole range of classic MPCs) that it´s always on 50% - no swing - when I switch it off and on again. Even the very old 60 starts at the same Swing settings which i have used in my last project. Second: This iPad like controlling screen is so slow and inaccurate and the wheel feels also very slow. On the 2kxl or the 1k you could press SHIFT and the numbers jumps in 10 increments (instead of only 1)so you are way faster when you want to change your velocity f.e. from 120 to 20... Thanks and all the best.

MPC ONE is great, i have one too - but i dont like the grid. the touch is sooo annoying. u always have to hit 100 times, till it responds. if u want to put in a note, or delete one, i have to hit that touch 100 times, to do it. and they never fixed it. thats crashing my workflow every time....

I've bought an MPC one and I'm selling it because I don't like that grid. I like music notes shown in numeric format. (note number, duration and velocity), not in graphs / drawing as shown in the MPC one grid.

I just researched grid editor and saw this.. I’m trying to mute the 1st 4 bars and when select that portion and hit mute it mutes the entire track.. I don’t want to delete it and play it over I just want to mute that section of the track in the song

I still think the grid edit needs a LOT of improvements. Why doesn't it allow to change velocity just by having a note selected and for example turn up one of the dials straight away? It pretty much should be the default parameter to change for any note selected IMHO. It's also unnecessary to move a note on the grid when you accidentally swipe instead of select it. They also recently changed the shortcut, so now the velocity is no longer a default parameter you change, but you have to swipe up the note bar to increase volume, which is a disaster with a full drum pattern nearby. I know you can change the tab by scrolling the wheel, but it's kinda dumb. You'll accidentally change the volume of a lot of notes you do not intend to change if you use the swipe up / drag up method. Erasing notes also won't work if the note is very short in duration, which is just a huge oversight on a device that is intended to work from the touchscreen. Last but not least, the way the sequencer won't put notes in view when you play them, is kinda annoying too. We want a scrolling cursor, but it would also make sense to follow the note played. Lots of unnecessary zooming a dragging the view around just to see what's up. And to do that, you have to change the grid edit tool also, or you might change other stuff. Not the best design. We do not need playing a note with a pad to also select all similar notes either. No idea why that was implemented, because it's only ever useful when you want to change the volume of all hi-hats for example, but selections won't lock, so it might not even work for that all that great either. Anyway.. all in all, it is a usable grid edit and I use it a lot. But it needs soooo much more improvements still. The quantize features also need the option to be non-destructive / destructive to allow for more complex rhythm corrections. But nudging notes works fine if you know what you're trying to accomplish there, not to mention using the device without quantize. I too never ever use the pencil tool. Why use the pencil tool when you can play the pads? I guess maaaaybe a note you already know should be perfect on the beat can be drawn in with the pencil tool, but the touch screen isn't exactly super accurate for that. I rather have the bar playing and play the pad instead.
