MPs have voted against the idea of Britain leaving the EU without a deal, clearing the way for Brexit to be delayed. In chaotic scenes, the government whipped its MPs to vote against its own motion after an amendment to it was passed, but it lost again

First time I watched British parliament and all I heard was: The eyes to the left, the nose to the right. wth? And who’s that funny man with a colorful tie shouting oooooorrrrrdddddaaahhhhh.
@an_idiot4777
@an_idiot4777 5 жыл бұрын
Okay so we have a "Speaker" (that's the man in the tie) John Bercow and he essentially supervises the commons. When voting it is described as the "ayes" (yes') and the "no's" (self explanatory for that one). The "left" side is typically the opposition to the government, the "right" is what the government want to do. So in this case the government want to prevent a No Deal Brexit, so they are on the right, while the ones that do (The ayes) are on the left. Hope that clears some stuff up

@Mobley House Video that's actually the case in most denocratic countries. America is one of the few countries that have "the winner takes it all" systems in place. Having more than one faction in the government makes a country more democratic by definition

@@connorphilipp Yes. 2 parties aid democracy. Except that all the opposition do is try to bring down the government so they can take power. There is a lot to be said for multi party government, and it is anyway better than direct democracy in complex issues like Brexit, which just reflects the will of the cleverest manipulators.

So you want an unelected head of state to have power over parliament, at the same time lamenting the lack of democracy in the EU Commission? - A typically unnuanced understanding of the EU by a Brexiter. - The hypocrisy in your comment - aside from the irritatingly unnecessary double commas and lack of capital letters laden ramble - is breathtaking.

Iamtop I'm afraid not (though don't shoot the messenger). No Deal is dead now - seriously. The MPs can vote to cancel Brexit, instead (if neither an extension nor May's deal is accepted by them). Currently, there ARE more in the house in favour of that, than No Deal. 'No Brexit' is the most likely default now, if they are pushed to a default (and a direct choice between No Deal or No Brexit). Most would be reluctant to do either - there would be serious problems with both. But if forced, it's No Brexit for them. In reality though, Parliament is likely to go for an extension first of all (or possibly May's deal next week). Even with an extension though, it is only delaying what will probably now end with May's deal, anyway. I'm afraid if Brexiteer MPs want any version of Brexit at all, they are now stuck with May's deal. It's finally endgame on this parliamentary deadlock.

Peregrine Slim Actually, this will probably be the saviour of May (even though she didn't want No Deal ruled out). Even with an extension, they are going to have to ultimately vote for her deal. The only other choices are No Deal (though they've practically ruled that out now), or No Brexit. Either of those two have very serious consequences, so they'll likely go for May's deal. So she will finally look successful, and regain some power.

They've refused May's final deal and then today they refused to allow Britian to leave the EU without a deal. Which leaves 3 possible options, The EU granting an extension for negotiations, Revoking Article 50 keeping us in the EU which can be done before the 30th or finally the EU refuses to grant us an extension and we have to leave without a deal. The third option might seem crazy because Parliment literally voted to prevent the UK leaving the EU without a deal, but we have no power of the actual EU, the EU will most likely tell May that she can take her deal or gets nothing. If we're forced to leave the EU without a deal because the EU wouldn't give us an extension then you can be Parliment will be thrown into chaos, May will be pressured to step down, we might see another GE, I imagine we'll get more Tories leaving the party to join the new indepenant party formed by Tories and Labor leavers. Then again if May is forced to revoke article 50 and keeps us in the EU we'll see the same thing, as all those who voted Leave will feel betrayed (They already do) The best thing May can hope for is if the EU grant us an extension but they won't.

@@ZipotheThird Well...the first one is very unlikely as it is clear that Europe doesn't need the UK as much as the UK needs Europe. I also don't see Europe granting the UK an extension, as doing this could encourage other countries (f.e. Poland) to leave the EU, since it would seem thag Europe wants to do as little harm to countries leaving as possible. No deal is the best solution for Europe right now since UK can't seem to decide on anything, as it may hurt the EU, but it'll hurt the UK wayyy more Edit: Oh and the EU wants to hurt the UK because we want to prevent other countries from leaving the Union (if that wasn't clear already)
@ZipotheThird
@ZipotheThird 5 жыл бұрын
@@hanzoshimada702 tbh we're all a bit confused why we didn't just leave, for the Tories who have been pushing to leave the EU since 2012/2013 a no deal brexit was the best way to get what they wanted and secure their seats against backlash from Leave voters. The fact they've voted down a deal and voted down a no deal brexit is mental, they're in massive danger of alienating Leave voters and if we're forced to leave without a deal because The EU won't give us an extension then the Goverment is in breach of it's own ruilings. My guess is that Tonight when the 2nd Ref Vote is put before the house we might see a majority swing behind that, the EU will give us an extension to allow for a second referdum, which if the vote comes out differently allows the Goverment to get out of having to accept any blame for a cancelled Brexit

@Firsthgyhgyhuy Lastujhujhuj Yeah, it might not. What I am saying is that the only plausible way to defy a referendum is via another referendum; and even that would be difficult. But if the second referendum were to happen, Britain might vote to remain, considering that in the almost three years since the last one, enough people have died and enough new voters inducted that Brexit does not necessarily have a majority even if no one changed their voting preferences.

I never thought I would see a coup de tete in the UK with people taking power against the will of the people. If this stands, ordinary Brits will have accepted they a not sovereign but vassals of the ruling class. I used to tell my Australian and American friends that the social structures represented in Downton Abby were not a real reflection of what the UK was like; but I was wrong. Belonging to the EU or not is no longer the issue, what democracy means in the UK is now hat is at stake.

To the combined Breixiteer brain cell, this is a meaningless (advisory) vote, as the default legal position is to leave on 29th with or without a deal.

How charming... And in case you didnt know, we knew about this default position a very long time ago, and were never bothered snout this meaningless vote anyway as it isnt binding. So yeah, calm the smugness down, Opinions like yours were the reason why remain lost, and now have inspired more and more people to support a WTO ‘no deal’.

That's because this vote has no basis in law, were as article 50 was implemented by a majority in order to enact the will of the people. The contempt you and remain minister's have for the electorate is dangerous.

OK! But what I’m shocked about is the reports today that the female Labour MP who was charged with FRAUD by the police (following a driving offence)... HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO VOTE ON THIS!??? When are we going to stop criminal MP’s from entering Parliament? Don’t we usually wait for them to retire and join the House of Lords instead? SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!
