Different use cases though, regular tankers can not take off aircraft carriers

With all due respect, the MQ-25 is another example of a program that was designed very poorly by the Navy. It wasn't required to have a big enough fuel load to refuel the f-35, only the F/A-18 super hornet

The MQ-25's fuel capacity is almost exactly that of the F-35, but unless something has gone terribly wrong, planes aren't running on fumes when they refuel. The Stingray is capable of topping off four to six F-35s or F-18s at a range of 520 miles from the carrier.
