Mr AMG on the New G63! - From Past to Present!

G Wagon Strikes Back!! A True Sequel to G Wagon at last! Welcome back to Remove Before Race guys! And a big welcome to all our new subscribers and viewers!
In recent videos we have explored the history of some cars and their respective companies. But despite my namesake of Mr AMG, we have never actually accessed arguably the richest history of all, that which lies behind the three pointed star! And no story is perhaps as interesting as that of the Gelandewagen / G Class / GE / G Wagen.
So in this review I’ll take you all the way back to the first All Wheel Drive car from Mercedes, the Dernberg Wagen, and then explore every G Wagon from the GE model series, all the way to the concept G Force and the last G63, with it’s crazy squared and 6x6 variants.
You’ll discover why the last G63 was so flawed, and why the G just had to change. How the whole G wagon update project was handed to AMG, even for the standard G; So you immediately know Mercedes were serious about driving dynamics being improved! Their goal - maintain the off roading capability and G character, while allowing an AMG badge to display with pride.
But is it just more power again, and the worst handling ever, like the old car? Has the modern interior ruined it? And what of the future G Wagon models to come?

Another brilliant video mate, never been a fan of the AMG G wagons, after driving a 2016/17 G63 I was genuinely horrified with how shit it was, truly awful car that almost turned it on it's side! With that in mind, the new G is miles better, still drives like a block of Mayfair flats, but does steer and stop when you want it to, also far nicer inside and almost accounts for some of it's huge price tag... While my wife was in love with the G wagon, but didn't like the big screen in the last version, I was skeptical. Her 2020 G63 arrive a couple of weeks ago and what an automobile it is!! It's a great size, plenty of room for all normal life excursions. But then, switch to Sport+, what a hot rod this thing is! What a great review of an awesome vehicle!! CHEERS!

​@@Dntwrrry W205 100%. I've driven both on track, and honestly the W204 has nothing on the W205. The W205 handles well, has more traction, sounds great and the interior is light years ahead of that in the W204. In terms of the engine I honestly don't miss the 6.2 V8 at all. Once you get behind the wheel of a newer gen AMG with the 4.0l engine, you won't want to go back to the 6.2 V8. The 6.2 V8 lacks torque, doesn't pop/bang on downshifts, is far less efficient and is somewhat heavier than the 4.0l engine. Also the 4.0l engine sounds so damn good, it has a deep low pitch muscular growl which sounds brilliant in person.

Having gone thru 10+ videos reviewing the new G-wagon, this video is by far the best review on the new G. You have the passion for Mercedes brandname, especially the G-wagon (the content quality of this G review is much much better than the content of your previous videos, although your previous videos were done with great care). Your analysis of the design language of the new G, in comparison with the old G, is fantastic, I have to rewind and watch that part 5 times because it's so satisfying to see this level of in-depth analysis. Needless to say, other reviews on the G do not go this deep into analysis, only touch on the surface. Please keep up the great work and hope to see more review of this quality from you in the future!!!

I saw a new one of these fueling up at the BP petrol station in Potters Bar this week in gloss black , lowered with black windows and wheels. It had huge flared wheel arches and the sound of that V8 was incredible. I don't normally like these but that one looked as good as it sounded.

I think it has to do with the fact that his name is Mr AMG and not everyone is a fan of AMG, so people assume that he only reviews AMGs and to add on that they assume his reviews are bias (All the "they's" include me but I subscribed though) ~ South Africa :-)

I completely agree with you on the 5.5l engine, the response time was abysmal. The new 4.0l engine has a sense of urgency to it, every time you tap the gas pedal, the car jumps forwards almost like it's supercharged.

Unless you’re an original W463 fan, you can’t really compare the two. It’s like comparing the W205 C63 with the W204 C63. People loved the original G for all its flaws. It was an untouched look. Timeless. You loved it how it was because of how it looked. I do like the new G. However, as even Merc have said themselves...most orders have been from Bentayga or Range Rover purchasers...not original G wagon owners. Which speaks volumes to me. Even now in Dubai, many have kept their originals.
