Here we have the latest Stihl 461 out of the shop, zip kitted with the insane-o version port job. Steve wanted an animal of a 461 so we built him just that. This saw absolutely barks! It is sporting an unlimited ignition coil so we won't hear any missing due to the spark cutting out.
The chain is an Oregon full comp, square chisel with the stops set for Redwoods so I was a little skeptical taking on this mini, inland, residual fir tree. It has enough low end torque to pull the chatter (rakers/riders/stops a fuzz low) out of the chain in hard fir. I was well pleased with the out come of the "custom saw modifications".
This saw was a pleasure to use and I am thankful for the allowance of the first test drive for sure.
I'm currently available for port work. Shoot me an email if you need a hand or are interested in trying something new.

Note the indicator wedge he set in the kerf loosely at 4:25 The wedge tipping down tells him the kerf is opening and tree is going the right direction, without looking up. Had the wedge risen, hed have noticed the tree was sitting back down and closing the kerf. So hed stop sawing and knock that wedge in before getting pinched.

If you were just a saw builder, that would be great, if just a faller, great, but to be both is outstanding. The Germans comments, I wanted to say no ear muffs because he wants to hear the German Tanks coming but truth is probably he wants to hear his work. Alot of times after tuning a carb you want to hear it raw, then put your muffs on later. Great work fellas, I love to read the comments also. I have a small 025 and a 009 limbing saw, I love them, I fix saws, get them running good and move them on and look for another to fix, mostly firewood saws or house clearing building sight. You Pros are amazing, so fun to watch. Thank You!
@hotsaws101
@hotsaws101 4 жыл бұрын
John hi. I use the foam roll up type while felling "out in the wood". I can hear what I need to with either the muffs (saw testing some of the time) or foamies. I don't start a saw without some sort of ear protection. I think that hearing the tanks coming would be prudent - hahaha. Thanks for watching my small offerings here.

Sent my 461 to Jack a few weeks ago to have the Insano-port done on it. Saw only has 10 to 12 tanks of fuel through it, and Jack sent me pics of the jug and piston. So much carbon build-up that he couldn't even get a decent squish test reading. He knew right away what type of mix I was using, before I even told him. Said he has had terrible luck with it. He recommended Motul 800 2T Roadrace mix, or Maxima Formula K2. He said the Stihl full synthetic is decent oil too.

Panthera Leo hi. Not in my experience. But, I use some of the best mix oil on the planet, run high octane fuel, maintain the air cleaners relentlessly, and have the needles adjusted properly. I also have my chains cutting well - which is what keeps the engine rpms in check. Thanks for watching.

I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle kzbin.infoUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

Can you please explain why the spark would miss if it had stock coil?
@hotsaws101
@hotsaws101 4 жыл бұрын
Caleb hi. The limited coils have an interrupted signal once they reach a certain, predetermined rpm level. Then, through the electronics, the signal is intermittent so that it only "hits" on, and this is only an example, every 2 out of 3 times the piston passes through tdc. The result is an engine that has a miss at high idle but it is from an engine cycle that doesn't get a spark signal to the plug, not from a jetting "miss" as it were. Thanks for watching.

@calebwillhelm2635 4 жыл бұрын
hotsaws101 what rpms is the saw in the video running at? And man thanks so much for taking the time to respond. You are awesome for that. I'm replacing the piston in my Ported 046. Damn meteor didnt even make it passed break in smh
@hotsaws101
@hotsaws101 4 жыл бұрын
@@calebwillhelm2635 - It depends on the state of tune. Part of that will be the elevation at which the operation is happening as well. They usually run between 12 & 13K. Although, my 281 will spin ~ 13.5K while still with a pretty good miss at high idle sporting a 32" at the coast. Out of all the am component options, Meteor has the best cylinder assemblies that know of. Also, one must consider that the oem 461 & 661 cylinders are made in Italy. It might not be the piston. Thanks for watching.

Probably my 064. It has more power than the little saws, weighs a little less than the bigger saws, and doesn't vibrate to bad for a rubber mounted machine. And, there is the option of spooning in an 066 top end...... You did not mention where, what kind, and how big the trees are - of which all are a factor when considering the question. Aaah Jack. Watching you fall is like music to my eyes. And that gorgeous 461. Without a doubt my favourite saw, though after a brief chat with you I went and scored an old 064, which was re- built by an old expert in Heyfield Vic Australia. I said to him, " no rush on the saw mate " Anyway, 2 years later he presents me with this monster saw. Probably superfluous to my firewood needs, but who cares, I'm in heaven. I had to watch your video after enduring the horror of watching a bloke dropping a much smaller fir, while training his son on the do's and don'ts. He had shorts and thongs on, or flip flops as I think they're called in the US. It took him a solid 16 minutes to scarf and back cut, then almost kill himself. I had to watch you Jack to regain my equilibrium😜😂 Keep up the great work mate💪😎 PS I would feel privileged to use Mr Billows saw.

Gregor hi. I use the foam roll up type that fit in the ear canal. They are hard to see. NRR is ~ 30 decibels - which allows a guy to still hear some of the ambient noises. Also, at the 30 +/- of noise reduction, a guy will still suffer some hearing loss. Thanks for watching.
