Mr Cardinal Wants His Peanut!

Күн бұрын

Squirrels, Grackles and Blue Jays eat peanuts in the shell like candy, the Backyard Male Northern Cardinal decides to take a big un-shelled roasted peanut, very unusual behavior as their beaks are not designed to open that wide or for breaking open large shells, but I'm sure in time he'll get it open. No problem eating the little peanuts inside. After watching all the other birds feast in the Backyard he seems to be saying he's had enough of this. There was a day when the cardinals ruled the Backyard bird feeder!

I love the slow motion. Birds are so quick that you don't often see the agility and elegence, but in slow motion you see how athletic they are. Love it.

+MyBackyardBirding, he probably just cracked away at the shell and then pecked on the peanut. That's my guess. But I don't know. Maybe you should put out chopped peanuts for the cardinals since they're clearly interested.

I have cardinals in my yard and they love peanuts whether shelled or unshelled. Since they fly off with them I've never seen them open a shelled peanut but apparently they can. I leave out kibble type dog food for the crows (who prefer peanuts) and even have a white ibis come in once in a while to eat the dog food. This upsets the crows but the ibis is a bigger bird with a long beak and the crows are afraid to mess with him/her.

I don't think it's about a number. The human pilot is controlling an external force in order to fly and then land. The bird is controlling an internal one, it is part of his body. This is something we will never be able to replicate. And if we ever do, it will still be through artificial means. In the bird's case, it is part of his nature, which makes it forever unique.
