Tech tip...make measurements in full throttle position. Have a second person hold the gas pedal to the floor. Use a tie strap or something to hold the throttle wide open. When you release everything it'll allow the pedal to come up to its natural resting point. If you adjust with everything relaxed, you can easily over stress it if it's too tight or won't get full throttle if too loose.

Great video. Finally had my carb’d crate motor in my 87 Firebird running right and the throttle cable snapped on the way home. Luckily I was close and idled home. Highlight was the cop that ignored me and kept driving by.

Fantastic tips and video.Thank you! You might have a bend on your cable but I'd love to have that routing. My 63 falcon firewall hole is right behind the 302 and I have to roller coaster that cable ha... Good job sir!

I have that same throttle bracket… found that when I put it on it was binding against the carb linkage and not letting it return all the way. Ended up shaving a little bit off of it right around the linkage and so far it’s been good.

They do need a lil modification sometimes, but not bad for a budget option.

You're doing very nice work. Good to see. I'm guessing that you have a cast iron spreadbore manifold with an adapter. Not optimum but will work (hopefully temporarily). Probably running it hot, too (heat crossover not blocked)? You really need a heat spacer under carb. I'm not familiar with that particular carburetor but I'm sure it is very similar to a Holley carb and Holleys work very poorly when the gas in the bowls are turning to vapor from heat. 👍
@HardHeadGarage2 жыл бұрын
Yea it's currently on a spread bore adapter. We've got to address a rear main seal leak soon. I've got a couple people wanting to buy it, so if we pull it out it may be sold. We've got several options right now, we'll definitely make an update video if anything major happens.

Selling the motor? I'm sorry to hear. If I was close to you I would be interested in it myself. I need a 440 block right now.

What bracket accessory do you have for your kickdown cable? Did it come with the ryanstar bracket?
@HardHeadGarage6 ай бұрын
The RyanStar bracket is from Amazon comes with the upper and lower anchor points for the throttle and kickdown cables. They both have some adjustment in them. The kickdown cable itself came from Summit. Both parts were $20 each when I purchased them.

Not as of yet. I did spray some silicone lube in the sleeve before I put the cable in.

got a quick question, so my throttle cable recently went out, replacing the carb and realized its shot, would this kit be able to work for me? Its a 72' C10 Chevy In6 (250) with a single barrel carb in it, honestly just need a throttle cable asap! edit: i can dm pictures on instagram if needed!
@HardHeadGarage Жыл бұрын
This kit should work for what you need. If I remember correctly, it comes with 3 feet of cable. You just trim it to fit your application.

I have the exact same setup it works but I don't like it it's still too overly complicated for me I had to modify a bunch of shit and to get into full throttle you got to be pushing your foot through the floor, it's just a matter of time before the cable breaks and the cheap black plastic retainer that holds the outer cable shield in place already broke, I'll figure something else out eventually but it's mainly my particular car and set up that's the problem not the throttle components so I'm sure this would work for just about anything else!

@@HardHeadGarage I had an extra als because I bought two kits after I measured once and cut twice! unfortunately I still managed to brake both of those little black plastic pieces, I think I'm going to try to whittle one out of a piece of aluminum shouldn't be too hard and it will be a fun project whenever I get bored!
