I was the short pudgy kid in high school. A late grower. By the time I was 18yo I was 6' 2 1/2" tall, 90kg and fighting fit. Often when out at a pub I'd feel eyes on me to find some bloke who gave me a hard time at school staring at me with fear in his eyes. I'd stiffen my shoulders and glare at them with obvious intent. [It's actually more effective to scare sh!t out of a bully than to belt them. It's also way more fun and satisfying] They quickly disappeared. A couple of my high school protagonists would sneak up behind me and ask if they could buy me a drink. I looked them up and down with a steely glare before saying "A double Wild Turkey with coke". They knew what they did. Someone must have taught them a lesson in respect between high school and then 😁

This triggers so many weird feelings. I hated high school. My twin was the popular one. I wasn't liked by most. I moved far off 8 days after graduation and returned only for a couple of 2 day visits to the parents. While in the grocery store, the checkout girl happened to be one of the most popular girls in class. We had known each other since kindergarten. Our high school graduation class was only 36 people so everybody knew everybody. I was 24 yo at the time so 6 years had passed. I had a few items to checkout so even after a couple of minutes she had not recognized me. The invisibility i possessed in high school was still present, but now i liked it. No class reunions were going to be in my future.

And I would come to such reunions only if I'd wish to, since there are no people in my school that I'd await to meet. Most of them were uneducated drunkards and party-heads. Nothing that evokes a deep interest and an urge to hug or smile. All the people I need - there're here, I can call them anytime, they can ask me for anything anytime, we meet daily and have profound conversations, beside supporting each other in shitty times. So, you won't see me at my school reunion. Guess who won't be sad about it
