They don’t get asked if they’re innocent if they’re next to someone or not. You ask if they can be seen or not, so if everyone is in the light then jack will show the light side of the card you thought had no point, or if he’s in the dark. So it’s important for jack to put as many people either into the dark or in sight as he can control. The detective wants to have an even split or so, so he can narrow down how many suspects. This explains why your games end extra early as well. Hopefully you amend the video and give it another play through :)
