Always hated the new seasons when they tortured Squidward, it just felt mean at a certain point.

Did you forget what squidward did to spongebob on both April fools and Christmas and gave spongebob a restraining order and also what he did to sandy's Lazer that combined himself with everyone and when he took the credit for dumping Mr krabs money mattress. . This is justified

The earlier seasons worked because most of the time, Squidward was getting involved in their shenanigans when he could have just ignored them and went on with his day. In the newer seasons, SpongeBob and Patrick get involved in Squidward's business when he's just trying to enjoy himself and STILL ends up on the wrong end of the stick. It went from Squidward receiving pain because he couldn't ignore them, to receiving pain because he's Squidward, and for no other reason whatsoever. I could be wrong, I haven't seen every scrap of the show, but I feel like this is why the Squidward torment episodes fell off.

@@Spookysparks90 The toenail thing was not. And honestly, that's my point, in the earlier seasons, he got comeuppance that was little more than a bit of fun slapstick. Later seasons just had writers who wanted to gore him for no reason.

Did a nasty prank on spongebob on April fools. . Took a picture of spongebob being sad on Christmas . . Gave spongebob a restraining order . . Mess up sandy's Lazer after getting separated from spongebob That not only combined himself with spongebob and everyone else near the explosion . . Took the credit for buying Mr krabs money mattress. . I can go on
