Half way through getting the engine ready for removal, we decided to do the smart thing and pressure test the cooling system to see if the head gasket really has failed

That's a GREAT workshop. Look at all that space, water and concrete floor. Daaaaamn. So nice! That "How long has it been?" is a fat mood. My Mk2.5 Mazda Miata is still in the garage being worked on and I started before you guys -.-

Don’t forget the “death stairs” 😂 Yeah, it’s definitely taken longer than we expected, but project cars are never really finished anyway

I don't want this to be a spoiler, but I am REALLY glad you guys tested that one thing before doing the other thing. It has been a few too many times that I have put way too much effort into a big job only to find it was something small after the fact. (Like rebuilding an engine because there was a vacuum leak🤦‍♀, at least it's 'like new' I guess...)

@@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness please do not wait! As a former car detailer and MR2 enthusiast, at the very least grab some soap and just get those bird bombs off the paint! A quick detailer spray will work. Hand soap will work. Bird poop is highly acidic and will etch the paint if left on for too long (too late?) either way, love seeing new content by you two!

It always makes my day seeing a video from you guys pop up. Glad that you didn't get all the way to engine disassembly before figuring it out. Small comfort. That is an awesome workspace! I am jealous. One thing would make it better for videos is to try and dampen some of the echo that occur. Makes the audio clearer. Throw up some cheap rugs of something like that on the walls should help.

Me: So bored, life is lacking direction. Might as well check KZbin. - Engines And Unfinished Business has uploaded a new video - Me: Oh. F**k. Yes. Your new Garage is bigger then our house. Love it.

Condensation to that degree? I had no idea that could happen. I was quite certain that I knew everything so this is an astonishing development.

Make sure to bleed the cooling system from all three places. 1 - The pressure cap 2 - The bleed port in the engine compartment, was near the transmission on my mk1 SC 3 - The bleed port in the frunk, should be close to the heater controls under the cover panels Cheers

For some reason KZbin stopped recommending your content and you fell off my radar for a while as I was following the original restoration of Misty. Last video seems to have been "Odd Jobs." I'm removing the engine in my SW20 later this month to do the timing belt and clutch so I thought I would revisit your engine removal series and noticed new things are still coming! Congrats on the new workshop and running water.

KZbin doesn’t seem to push our videos much - nearly 6k subscribers but most recent videos get around 1k views 🤷 probably because we don’t upload consistently, good thing we do it for fun rather than trying to make a living off it, the algorithm can be pretty brutal 😅

if its an consolation I've been working on my mr2 for the same length of time. I also done a soft engine rebuild that went array when a bit of metal came off the oil pump & smashed a piston & scored the bore, so I've had to get a new block, new bearings, needs a few valve stems too. I'm on the rebuild now & otherwise I have an alternator, tyres and some cosmetics to do :)....hopefully this will be the year I complete it.

@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness Жыл бұрын
Eventually we’d love to get a lift, would need to get rid of the mezzanine first though. Yeah, it would have really sucked to have dropped the engine and taken the head off, only to discover the head gasket was fine 😖

The temp guage issue you have is because of the wires you cut when removing the oil level sensor. I had exact same issue. I reconnected them and the temp sensor worked again.

That's the nice thing about video taping repairs, it's easy to find what you missed. Provided you actually go back an watch it before putting it back together and not... 5 years later.

What issue were you having with the temperature gauge?
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness Жыл бұрын
You’re right! 🤦 I’ve just double checked the wiring diagrams and the black and white wire I cut to bypass the oil level sensor also goes to the coolant temperature guage. Thank you so much for pointing this out, I’ll reconnect that wire and hopefully be able to bleed the coolant finally. I also need to update that old video telling people not to cut tht wire
