Thank you for making this video! I have a 1987 mr2 that has been parked since 2006 needed engine removal and I finally yesterday started on disconnecting everything. Your video has been a huge help.

Pro tip: Use PB Blaster with a jack to be safer about getting really stuck on nuts/bolts. Place the wrench in position, jack the jack up to reach the end of the handle, move to a safer position, and continue to jack the jack until the nut breaks loose. I had a microfracture on one of my fingers by being unsafe, now I use the jack method and haven't been injured since.

+Jeff Reeves Sounds like a great tip. Will try this out. Thank you!

i honestly dont know why people dont do this, seen three people pulling up on a big arse bar to try crack a wheel nut, i came along with a jack and just jacked the bar up, work smart not hard
@NickPahls7 жыл бұрын
I can say from experience that this is a lot of work when your doing it by yourself without a lift or hoist, takes a lot of patience and time to do it all correctly. good job! can't wait to see it running again!

Thanks so much Nick. It's coming back soon I promise. How's your turbo beast doing?
@NickPahls7 жыл бұрын
well i had an issue with my cold start injector and it kept spraying fuel into my intake while my key was on and washed the cylinder walls on my fresh engine, my pistons ring lands got bent from the fuel and started scoring the block, long story short i took the block to the machine shop and its getting bored for my new Aries 9.5:1CR pistons. hoping to get it back this week so i can install it as soon as possible.
@d4a7 жыл бұрын
What? You too? Oh crap. I know how you feel. But you got the right attitude. Get knocked down, dust yourself off, fix what's broken and get back on the road. Those Aries pistons sound cool. I bet it's gonna be even more amazing this time around. I loved the clips you posted on Instagram. Good luck and hope you get it back on the road soon.

Suggestion: Instead of removing the intake manifold, after lowering the engine onto the ground, use your frame and hoist on one of the rear tow hooks to lift the rear of the car more. Protect the bumper with something, obviously.
@d4a7 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. That's actually not a bad suggestion at all. Wish I thought of it.

I think I figured out what is wrong with my AW11. Bad fuel pump. Gave you a mention at the end of the video I am editing now. Asked if you thought differently too, hah. Keep an eye out.
@d4a7 жыл бұрын
Let me know when the video is up. I'll drop by and write a huge comment about diagnosing problems on a 4age :). The fuel pumps on these cars are usually pretty reliable. What makes you think it's the fuel pump?

Hope you had lifetime warranty on that torque wrench (another benefit of US auto part stores). Also, that last bit of the video is literally every car guy ever, I wish you the best, also if you give me your P.O. Box i'd send you a care package, good luck bro.
@d4a7 жыл бұрын
I bought this torque wrench used. Never liked it. Wanted a reason to buy a new one :) You're right that last bit is the condensed suffering that comes before your car is on the road :). I'm gonna take you up on that care package when I run out of steam and motivation, thank you sincerely for the offer :)

KZbin gold right there! I once had a CV nut refuse to budge on a Toyota too, broke a ratchet and a breaker bar, couldn't even budge it with an impact gun, ended up welding an impact socket to a 3 meter length of steel section and used that as a giant wrench, had to hang off the end of it, but it got it!
@d4a7 жыл бұрын
+LukeTheJoker Thank you. Warms I heart to hear I'm making some KZbin gold. Damn, congrats on not giving up and beating that nut. I might do the same thing you did to get this one off. Thanks for the suggestion.

Alright so after dropping my own engine out of my 1988 MR2, and then watching this video as I'm in the process of putting mine back together, I noticed you removed the clutch lines and shifter cables and left the bracket bolted to the transmission. I have been having a very difficult time getting mine back on, because the guide I followed for removal said to unbolt the bracket and leave the lines and cables attached. Could you perhaps help me through this process? I feel like I'm missing a step somewhere because the holes line up, but there is a large gap between the trans and slave cylinder, as well as between the slave cylinder and the bracket. I have tried pushing it into place or tightening the bolts to snug it up, but all I succeeded in doing was messing up the threads of one of the bolts. Your videos have been really helpful, and I look forward to new videos you post. Thanks in advance!

cant you heat up stubborn nuts and put some oil in to loosen most seized parts?
@d4a7 жыл бұрын
pootuis poot You can and it usually works. I tried that and more on this axle nut, just didn't record it. The thing won't budge no matter what. I'll buy an impact wrench soon and try that too.
@JeffReeves7 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you've figured this issue out already, but for anyone else that may still have to remove an axle nut: do it while the car is on the ground. The wheels are wonderful at preventing movement while attempting to loosen the nuts.

+plc143 The sad thing is I bought a set of really good glasses. And I rarely put them on. They mostly gather dust. You can see them on my head in the blurry shot towards the end of the video. I put them on AFTER I got some dirt in my eye. I vow to change this stupid habit.
