Motivation: kzbin.info/door/t3YSIPcvJsYbwGCDLNiIKA This is definitely not your typical d4a video but I think these are important and relevant issues that impact all of us. So I felt a strong urge to speak about the subject openly, in a logical, unbiased and rational manner. This is not a signal of any change of direction for this channel, but as a creator I will not abandon my freedom to dip into other topics because of the possibility of upsetting people that expect exclusively a certain type of content and may choose to unsubscribe if they see something unexpected. This channel is not a media machine with editors, researchers, interns, cameramen etc. This is genuinely a one-man show that is fueled by passion and curiosity. I am the researcher, the script writer, the presenter, the camera-man, the editor. Yes, it's a lot more work but it also means that I only have to finance myself and not an entire team. The bonus I get is greater creative freedom and a lack of constraint to always produce exclusively view-maximizing and sponsored content. I know that many of you understand and appreciate this, and for that I am very grateful.

" *philosophy* " The philosophy presented here is a post-modern nonsense, in which no scientist worth his salt believes. Scientists do believe in objective truth. The whole concept of *discovery* in science implies the existence of objective truth. Sure, it may be hard to discover, and we will never know all of it, but we surely can know *some of it* ! That's what the actual scientists believe. What he says here is a pseudo-intellectual post-modern babble, which likely appeared, because the *philosophers* couldn't figure anything out. Science figured out a lot of stuff, hence this post-modern view never took hold.

You may say that it's a semantic distinction, but it really is not, since there are people who do believe that "the truth" is what we believe is true. Even if we are wrong, They don't care. It's a shame we are told everyday that we need to start driving electric vehicles when they make up a small percentage of pollution and the natural resources to replace every combustion engine on this planet with batteries does not exist on this planet. Also the manufacturing process of these batteries is way more toxic for the environment. Plus the power that is required to recharge these cars is made by coal burning power plants and the power generating capacity needed to replace all current cars and trucks is mind boggling, it will take many years and many nuclear plants to be able to generate the power needed for this global endevour. And yet we are being told by 2035 combustion engines will be obsolete and some countries in the world will ban them? How is this even possible? But hey dont think too much about it, just be a good consumer and give us all your money... and then give us some more because we will make some features in your car subscription based to "save the environment".

I first experienced these "optional features" about 20 years ago. As an electrical engineer I authorized the purchase of a HP vector signal analyzer. This was an expensive piece of equipment at about $25,000. It had a number of options built into it that could only be activated by purchasing a software key for each option. I really hated this idea and I still do.
@charleslowe522 Жыл бұрын
When I seen "HP vector" that reminded me of what I seem to face everyday. I work in automotive as an embedded software "engineer". I don't consider configuring a microcontroller low-level drivers, communication stack, etc. as necessarily being an engineer. Most companies sell their hardware and then a license fee has to be paid to use the associated software application to utilize it. Those companies that provide hardware and software that allow you debugger software, they are pretty reasonable due to the competition. The is one company though that has close to a monopoly on the tools for looking at communication buses in a vehicle and various portions of the embedded software components like the bootloader, communication stack and to meet AutoSAR requirements. They charge some an excessive amount of money for their products. A bootloader and AutoSAR package cost over a million. Their tools for viewing or simulating an ECU with a CAN bus, cost over $10k. However, the other day I went to an information session and their is another company whose product I have worked with in the past that's offer this same CAN tool for around $700. Good to have competition.
@Kaizzer Жыл бұрын
@@charleslowe522 yeah, I've just entered the same job position as yours recently. It's really EMBARASSING to see those costs, when instead a good microcontroller demoboard with GCC could do mostly the same thing (what matters) at 1/100 the cost, perhaps brought by an open source community.

to view this from a different perspective, the software features cost *a lot* of money to develop and maintain, and someone who just wants the basic functionality of the device doesn't have to pay for this development, the companies that actually need the features do.

And Costa only owns around 6 boats. There are around 10 other boats from other companies all emitting a LOT, and nobody ever says nothing about them. Also, we are not even accounting for the enormous amount of wasted food, since all the restaurants are all you can eat... i could even go on talking about how in reality we are not the problem and the biggest amount comes from developing countries and how we should help their economies to achieve a faster developing society, but this would turn into an article :) nice vid, we should share it as much as possible.

Consumer demand is a more effective, uncorrupted and efficient way to regulate corporate outputs. Governments have proven to enable corporate greed by leveraging lobbying power to sway tax laws in their favor. No amount of governance "by the people" can compete with corporate lobby money. Just an amazing video, concerning an issue that is now really important to discuss and make people aware. No one seems to question greenwashing. I really hope we will be able to make people realize this. The first thing I have always learned will help the environment is to reduce. Buy second hand for starters, overall the impact of an older vehicle will be much less that buying an electric car - the cost to the owner too... Consumism is greatly related not only to the extreme side of capitalism but, to the ego and showoff mentality our society now lives upon, people will have to realize this first, which might take a while...

Brilliant video. Probably the most well-ordered, rational analysis of these matters I've ever seen. Giant KUDOS to you, sir. I have been wrestling with these concepts myself, over the years (and I am a LOT older than you). Despite the effort and energy expenditure on my part - I certainly have changed nothing. Regrettably so. Unfortunately, the only solution, at which I have arrived for myself, is simply to refuse to participate in the (as I refer to it) nonsense. I'm not sure I can do more. Every day, I do everything I can to bypass, ignore and find workarounds for these matters. As much as any other reason so that I don't drive myself crazy with it all. It's no global solution, to be sure, but it helps ME. I guess that is all I can do...

Truly one of the most thought provoking videos I have seen here on youtube possibly ever. And I have to largely agree with your analysis of our corporately driven world and the impact that we can have as individuals thru a collective effort applied via the internet. The internet has become sadly used for everything except what your observations claim are needed. Maybe your expose here of these facts will help turn that around. Its my sincere hope that you are the beginning of some serious change that benefits us all.

I can't remember ever commenting on any of your videos in the past (interesting and informative as they are) infant I actually try to stay out of the youtube comments section for my own mental health, but you have articulately and poignantly illustrated an interesting perspective on green washing. I think you can agree that seeing the bigger picture of why things are the way they are can lead to a lot of backlash, not because people are stupid, but because they are comfortable, apathetic and dare I say, self interested. Confronting our own cognitive dissonance when it comes to "what we want Vs what we need" takes a level of self control most people find extremely stressful and confusing, you are literally confronting your own biological drives, but to face the social collectives cognitive dissonance is like trying to run a marathon with no training. So until the environment is so toxic it can't be hidden behind propaganda we will watch videos like this one, agree with your points and then toodle off back to our lives feeling virtuous that we agree but yet with STILL no motivation to really change! The truth is, human oil addiction is decades from the intervention and rehabilitation it needs, so just enjoy your life, and learn to repair the things you need to sustain your enjoyment, the rest is little more than brown noise

this video is really good, puts a lot of feelings I and (surprisingly very few of) my friends who are engineers have been feeling about the world as of recently, the only issue is the only time where it seems like actually looking at reality is encouraged at all is in academia. society's general anti-intellectualism mixed with bad actors pushing for that to remain the norm are ultimately the biggest threats to humanity at the moment to be honest i find it genuinely shocking how 9 times out of 10 asking something as basic as "what's the source on that?" can't even be answered in serious discussions about these topics, and then another 9 times out of 10 that source will be something someone found to agree with their point, NOT the general scientific consensus on any issue one thing to mention is that as much as most of these shitty practices come from the executives in these companies, ultimately someone has to design and implement these things and so many fellow engineers do not care, and would gladly fuck over their consumers for the bigger salaries these companies give out, even beyond the automotive industry. i was talking to an engineer I knew at BMW (who drives a Toyota, lmfao) and the general sentiment is either "I can't do anything about it because I'm the minority" or "I don't care, I get paid either way". very frustrating
@xerr0n Жыл бұрын
a few tidbits. dont have too much time right now..... There's no scientific consensus, there's mainstream and forks, which is good on one way and bad in another lies, damn lies and statistics..... on the consensus part again- there were about 12(out of ~20) papers published which were inane on the onset, the test was to see if they Would get published. 60% did, one of them was a copy from "mein kampf" with a word change. about 60-80% of the soft science studies/research etc is purportedly unduplicable. the Hard sciences also have that but in a lower amount, again purportedly. there's a lot of mud to sift through and we must get smarter. bjorn lomborg has similar notions, its education that we must put an emphasis on, more and better technology will, if not save, then help us do better in general. the current environmental "pledges" of nations are a mess of things and there no real ONE goal so that it gets done, instead everyone is twiddling their thumbs in their own corner making jack s.... especially on the environmental part, which i have similar problems with as are told in the video. i get that people want to help but being lazy isn't really the answer´, charity also has such a similar problem, peoples good will gets exploited with their laziness. a charity may use up more than half of the donations for itself, and that's probably a low estimate with some of the bigger ones. just making evs aint gonna help if you need to put more energy and resources, or in other words pollution, into building them, the support structures and anything else they need. And to top it off then use them somewhere so that they emit even more than a regular car in their lifetime, making the environmental part of the argument pointless and cynically funny. in an australian grid an ev will produce about 80-120grams of CO2 per km, compared to my diesel that produces about 180 grams per kilometer, my car is about 15 years old, an ev has about 8 tons of CO2 battery "loan" to pay back for making it and it gets renewed every 2-10 years, heavily depending on how you drive and for how much, adding that 8 tons of CO2 again, with current technology, which may be for a while. (im not buying into "the future" arguments, there are very solid reasons why most technology is not scalable etc so that it may spread to the vast majority of us.) Especially if were building them in china, which reminds me: if were just exporting the pollution away to another place, then were still producing more pollution + the transport, there is only ONE planet. and still made a long reply, sorry for the rather hodge podge thoughts, ask for clarification on any of em.

Another burger flipper perspective… take a business class moron… EVERY CEO of every company “salary” is based in the company’s performance… sure they draw a base salary and ALL salary are commensurate level of responsibility as well as skills bank… the company does does poorly, that responsibility lies with CEO, or the union mutt demanding $100/hr in salary and benefits for putting air in a car tire… or better yet the toilet scrubbers who demand a “ living wage” because of their poor life choices, illegitimate children from 4 different fathers, ZERO marketable skills, ZERO formal education and somehow its society’s fault that they are not producers but parasites …

Acedemia is eather teaching you how to manipulate others or manipulating you, depending how high you power is. Why do you think the world is the way it is? Everyone goes to school. It’s not there to educate you but make you into subservient to what ever goal they have for society. In the end it’s always about the power and wealth of someone. Scientist don’t have morals and would have no problem killing billions if that is what is asked from them. They have proven that beyond any doubt time and time again. The guy in video says the knowledge across internet should be like scientist do it but than complains about internet becoming a war zone. DaFak? That is EXACTLY how scientist Battle it out too. Read the history about scientists and not some fairy story about the scientific community. They have no conscious and now they are perfectly fine to claim there is no gender nor is an unborn baby alive. The hell will I go along “scientific knowledge” when they telling me different than my own eyes can see. That’s for you idiotic sheep ripe for slaughter.

Wow! Thank you for your bravery in creating and posting this incredibly well thought out video. I love the analogy of the world as a smoker, as I myself recently quit smoking 😅 but there is another motivator besides fear. One that will cause people to stare death in face and defy it. And that is hope. I have experienced hope and peace that has changed my life forever. On my own, I could not overcome my natural tendencies for greed, pride and shame, things that all inhibited my ability to contribute to a better society. And I don’t expect people to be able to overcome their own desires for the good of society. It was not until I surrendered my life to Christ that I was able to think and act in ways that had the greatest collective benefit as their consequence. I agree with absolutely everything else you said here, and I commend you for being able to reach these conclusions through your own scientific reasoning, what a brilliant mind! I just want to offer an alternative method to reach the same goal here. If we had a world full of people as rational as you this goal could be accomplished by will power alone. But for myself, I put my trust in God for my salvation, and that he will enable me to work for the greatest collective benefit. And I will be praying for you brother! This was an absolute joy to watch, i will try to never miss a video from here on! And i pray that i will get to have eternity to have great discussions with you.
