Finding the "perfect" property is a lot harder than finding a "good enough" property. Your instincts are sound, there's nothing like having a home. Narrow your search first by eliminating areas you wouldn't find suitable. Then do a cost/benefit analysis for the remaining to further narrow your search. An important consideration is how close you want to be to family. Depending on your relationship, that can be important. When baby Drew and baby Brittany come along, it's a huge blessing to get help from a loving grandma. Not that Grandma couldn't necessarily travel to your location but the closer you are the more you can help each other and be part of each other's lives, a big benefit for the babies. Anyway, keep praying about it and you'll figure it out. Plus, you don't have to start out in your forever home so consider something that will work well for now even though it's not everything you ultimately want. Our first house was a fixer upper, our second one I designed and built. It took a while to find the property that was the right balance between what we could afford and what we would really love to have. It gets real when looking at the price tags. And remember, it's not just the price of the property, it's also the price of building or renovating, the permits and process, the taxes, the fees, the restrictions... All kinds of things to consider that would otherwise come as surprises later.

When I start this lifestyle I want to buy some land first so that I have a "homebase" so when I do need some stability time I can park on my land and just relax until I'm ready to move yet again. Planning on making it like a homestead or build a tiny home off grid. Imo it's very important to have somewhere you can decompress or just feel the need to be still.

I got the biggest compliment from my mother, I'm the black sheep of the family and we reconciled a few years ago and when she needed help, she called on me! I flew Southwest, ate too much for breakfast and didn't drink water, realized I was constipated before lunch but I ate the whole thing anyway then I got dehydrated and passed a kidney stone while my mother was force feeding me metamucil, smelling strange smells👃, sleeping in a strange bed 🛌, waking up to strange light💡 and helping my mother with a strange problem is everything but normal and even though the content of today's video wasn't normal, you brought it, a sense of normalcy ❤️ I'm a believer in the power of prayer so hold on, the road will become bumpy before you settle in somewhere

Having a "home base" can be a Blessing because you have a place to store stuff, do laundry and isolate if need be.After living on boats for too long I realized that I needed a home base because there were times I needed to stay on land during Hurricanes, loss of boat or illness. It's truly not a bad idea if you pick the right property which at better times can Air B & B advantageous & Drew, please use conditioner.I purchased a brush on amazon that was life changing. My hair is long & fine so I purchased the "Wet Brush" on amazon and it detangles the knarliest of hair! Hi...Recliner Babe and her Handsome Prince here. Sometimes NO decision IS the decision. I believe a good drive to be with family for a visit would be a start....and a good place to make another good decision.....like one step at a time. Renting before buying seems sensible. As for us....we made a major decision....we sold our hom....the one on the hill where we waved to you on the ferry in Washington. It was our perfect landing place for 24 years...and hard to leave......but circumstances change. Age and health forced our decision for us. We are in a condo now....no more beautiful view. But we are still together....that's what counts. You dont have to make a permanent decision. Just put one foot in front of the other....let it happen. Believe me....it will. As they say....no matter where you go...there you are! 🧙♀️💌🧙♂️

Right now is not a safe time for air travel. There are so many pretty US states to visit and you are so fortunate to have places you can travel to with warm/warmish climates all year long. We love Florida for many reasons, mostly for the weather, beaches and water. Don’t mind the shopping there either. The gulf coast is gorgeous, our favourite area and a trip all the way down to Key West is beautiful too but if you like scenery we like Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia. Not the year for Mexico. My friends daughter who had been living for 18 months in puerto morales died. Her housekeeper found her two days later in her bed, in her bedroom. She was 35. The autopsy said covid. But there are unanswered questions and no way for her parents to know anything. It was the American Consulate who notified her mom. The little town had no refrigerated morgue and when her dad went to ID the body it was five days old and they could only identify from scars. The skin had pulled away from the body in that heat. It was gruesome and traumatic for her parents. They said she would be cremated there but it has been six weeks and no ashes yet. A Mexican lawyer needed to be hired for all the documents and the whole thing has been really expensive and traumatic for the parents and her brother.

@@beverlyschiffler9649 I'm so sorry to hear this disturbing news. And sadly, this is happening in the US as well - with less macabre and bureaucratic horrors after death. Its true that Mexican people are suffering. We are in the midst of the most devastating pandemic since 1918. It occurs to me that, to give any advice to travelers right now is presumptuous. And, I'm a nurse, and do feel the responsibility that we take on giving advice. In this case, these 2 travelers are seasoned, wise young people who have strong resources and intelligent self protection and care practices. And, strangely, they would be leaving the country with the highest rate of COVID in the world... Personally, I am working from home here in upper NY state where the COVID rate is very low. I formally invite Mr and Mrs Adventure to come to Otsego County for the winter - we will find a place for you. Its darn cold and dark here in the winter though!!!! Love Jennie

Thanks for sharing your struggles (having lots of amazing choices in your hands) with us! What I would probably do if I were you...is to research as much as I can just like you guys are already doing, ask around and listen to great advices of your friends. Compare and evaluate all. Then, shut off everything, to listen to what you are most excited for. You probably know it already. And knowing that this decision doesn’t shape the rest of your life, but it will be just the begging of another great journey, might make the decision process easier. If it doesn’t work out, well, there’s so many more choices that your hearts jump out and scream out of joy. You are so capable of shifting the direction and coming back up to where you truly wanna go. Your health is primary. That includes mental and emotional and spiritual. I think you two have a priority that some van lifers don't...you are motivated by love and team effort. If van life adversely affects your team happiness and cooperative mood your lovely friendship and marriage could sustain some wounding. You could survive some wounding but why risk it?...especially if you don't necessarily have to. I stand behind any decision you make....that doesnt necessarily mean much except that someone has a lot of confidence in you and your amazing intelligent love. Thank you for all your sharing. I know it is also a business plan and not a service. I have, as a visitor in your dreamscape, an armchair traveler, been very impressed. Like you two, I love warmer climates and sunny days. I am photo sensitive. Your stealth and safety are also very important. In some places there is a very high level of hate-fueled conflict. Please just factor in some of that reality. You might want to hunker down in uber safety until after the election has been cleared. In my area, people have been very political about mask wearing and "hoaxes"...science has been labeled as idiotic...very dangerous thinking or lack of thinking. Pray and study...the answers will come! Love you two to pieces. I have been in need of athletic greens...lol. I stayed in the Raw Food Institute in Boston, MA. Wheat grass juicing and all delicious raw foods was so amazing. Well, chipmunks love dreadlocks and warm body heat, Drew...nesting chipmunks and nest building birds could use your hair. Leave it for them to use as snuggle bunny stuff...lol...insulation for all the science folk! I love you...a bushel and a peck...a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck... That is an old song!

It's 4 real!!! Lol thanks; I know my life feels totally out of control. I'm reminded AGAIN, control is an illusion. We can align our responses with our values, but just as sudden surprises can illicit an unintended yelp, sudden far reaching or extreme changes in the physical or cultural environment can cause anxiety, shock, indecisiveness, and stress. We're not sure how certain responses align with our values, we've never been faced with those sets of stimuli before! Deep breath in, pause, exhale. We will make the best choice we can given what we know now, and allow for changes and grace as we learn and adjust to ever changing new information. Pilots do not fly in a straight line, they adjust course with ever changing data updates on the flying conditions that surround them at the moment. Head towards, drift off to avoid or move toward more favorable conditions, hold that line for a time, drift back toward original coordinates. It's OK not to have it all figured out.

15:30 So glad you're getting to enjoy Mt. Hood. My god parents (Carlos & Sonia Manriquez ) were caretakers of Mazama Lodge in the 1980's. My earliest memories where when I was five years old staying there. Memories like, going on 5 mile cross country ski excursions at 5 years old, breaking off, and licking, the giant "popsicles" from the eaves, my older brother taking great pleasure in tricking me into standing under a snow covered tree, only to shake the branches. Or helping to wash dishes in the Mazama Lodge kitchen. They would put a chair in front of the rinse sink for me to stand on. We lost track of Carlos & Sonia. I wish I knew where they ended up living.

Come to Mexico for a few months. Not being able to hang out in a coffee shop, restaurant, gym, etc *is* tough. I'm sheltering in place in Baja Mexico. I feel safer here. Every grocery store, etc checks your temperature, masks are worn to enter businesses, etc. Tables have been removed to accommodate new rules. So one can hang out at Starbucks, shower at a gym, etc.

Seems like you are ready for the next chapter in your lives. I life by the saying "sometimes a desicion becomes the right one by desiding for it" ( I translate from German, so I hope you can understand what I mean). All the best to you 😊

👍 for the haircut - have you considered a bus like Tio Ventura instead of a permanent house - more room but less mobility than a van but way more mobile than a house - just a thought 😊🌹

Awwww, find a cabin in the woods, stop and raise 6 kids. 😎😎 If that doesn't seem right, follow your hearts.

My 2 cents: drive south & then East. Do the family thing through the holidays. Then, if you’re able to cross into Canada... go see Amon & Bec. They just bought a cabin in the woods!!! *on second thought... Canada in the winter!?! What am I thinking!?! Stay south!

Go into Levi Kelly airbb. Absolutely gorgeous places all over. He even came 40 min.from where I live in Johnson City TN. I had no idea the place was there. You will make a great choice in whichever. Tom,Dick and Harry how hilarious. I've heard that saying when I was young when adults didn't want to mention names in a story. Or couldn't remember either one sounds rite. You two stay safe, healthy but most of all do what makes you happy. Just breath! Exhale! Three times, your good. Lol

I hope you are voting. That can help you decide what is best for you. Looking at what you want. Personally I confess hope you guys stay put. We still have a way to go to come out of the Pandemic. Safety is staying put.

You have made a huge difference to many of your subscribers, so how about committing to another year, by which time a vaccine will have been found for covid and then you can make that choice, eg. living closer to your family while at the same time going off on trips. You'll get to keep your fan-base here, and receive a steady income from your affiliates - don't throw away all you have built up! Your health is very good and nutritionally you take special care in that, so maybe you could find a home base, yet still go out on adventures. Once borders of various countries open again, then you can set up a wood mini-cabin to visit and still work remotely. You have so much, you have given so much, so commit to another year and see how life pans out. Might even have started a family by then, and in years to come have young ones running hogwild and living in a safe environment among trusted friends and family. Thank you for this video, enriching our lives every week, you two are so together! ❤️ ETA, small wood cabins can be built, so why now design your own? You could always sell your plans like you did for Spirit. Even cabins that ca be towed to another area. Land would have to be bought....but this time next year a covid vaccine would hav been made, thus opening up borders and allowing you both a broader scope to put roots down.

I can understand you, at some point you are in a daily routine. My wife and I have been married for more than 23 years now and we have managed to do this, through joint projects, but also because everyone has done something for themselves. Everyone needs some space for themselves. How about hanging a small caravan behind your van and extending it. Then you would have a two-room apartment on wheels. :)

I vote (not that you should care, lol) rent a airbnb for 6 to 8 weeks. It will give you a break from the vanlife, and see if you're ready to settle for longer than that. Of all the warm places I've seen in the US, I would live in Scottsdale, AZ. Not a fan of Florida. If you are considering outside of the US, have you thought of Portugal? Big decisions should not be rushed but once you have all the facts, it's just a matter of taking the plunge. I am myself an accidental immigrant (came to NYC to study and ended up getting married) it's not always easy to be away from family even after many years. But I'm sure you know that already.
