Hey guys....the elder adventurers here. We ran into some health problems...so haven't been faithful commentors for a bit. We had to leave our home of 25 years...you know....the one overlooking the ferry in Anacortes. We are renters now...see, another new adventure before our final one. We always share your more active adventures and gratefully so. Just want to say...if you decide to rent a houseboat....there are others....not so $$$ as Sausalito...We always wanted to try one in Seattle but missed the opportunity. Many are on lakes, some on rivers, yet still close to cities and/or nature. What fun to start researching again. (Recliner Babe and her Handsome Prince.)

@@stephanieburns4560 That's fascinating, I never paid attention to that. I remember auditioning HiFi equipment in the seventies when a seemingly knowledgeable salesman described their recordings (from a technical aspect) as having "that British sound". I never delved into the specifics but fell in love with the music and the soundscape. I have a dozen or more of their albums both on the original records and again later on CD. Looking on Wikipedia at the album "Rumours" specifically (truly iconic), look how many places are listed for the production of the album (none British by the way): Criteria, Miami Record Plant, Sausalito and Los Angeles Zellerbach Auditorium, Berkeley Wally Heider, San Francisco Davlen, North Hollywood 🤯 Cheers!

Welcome to my "neck of the woods!". Actually I live just north of Sausalito in Petaluma. My cousins own the Venice Deli on the main street, so if you're in the neighborhood, stop by. I've never actually been inside that community so it was so fun to watch the tour. There's another houseboat community further south in the Bay Area in Redwood City, it's called Pete's Harbour. It's probably less expensive, but no where near the community feel of Sausalito. If you guys can swing it, what a great place to land!

I so enjoyed all this info.plus seeing inside some of the house boats. My all time favorite is a 2 story that aired on tiny house owned by a woman that met her bf while sitting on deck having wine. I love her home and her story. Most people here in TN.keep there large pontoon house boats in slips but stay in them all summer. Me I have a camper but I'd give it up for this option. Alot cheaper here to live on the water a year than that place. Alot cheaper to live anywhere you want in TN. No ocean but some good lakes.

It would be hard to park a van next to one of those :-) Buying a cabin or a house to renovate and earn some money on, and buying another house to renovate and earn some money on until you get your dream house to live in, is one thing you can do. The best thing is if you can do this without having to take up a mortgage, times being as they are, and probably will be for a long time. Renovating a house also makes good content. An old friend of mine who has passed away now, once said a thing I remember. He said, the views living by the ocean can be great. But you have the moisture all the time, and it can be very windy. So it is better to live a certain distance away from the shore line but having the ocean view if you can afford it. I also had friends who built a house right by the sea, where they could jump right into the water and have a morning swim if they wanted to. But they sold it after a few years and bought a house away from the waterfront. In a warmer climate, these things might not be of the same concern. I don't know.. But from what you are showing us, it looks like you will be living very close to your neighbors in that place. And it will probably be quite noisy most of the time. I get the feeling that living like that might not be quite the thing you are looking for, but it is very smart of you to look under every rock in your quest to find the right place. Put down on a piece of paper all the things you would like to have in a property and add that it should have good neighbors and be affordable for you now. That is important. And then suddenly the right place will turn up for you. It might take a while, but you will find it. That is how the universe works, it seems. Good luck with everything. It is very exiting to follow you around on your journey to find your very own place where you can settle down.

It’s incredible to see the strength of a community when people know each other and are looking out for one another. This is something that we are all capable of, but sadly this is sorely lacking in so many communities because people do not connect or talk to one another. We are stronger and healthier when we have that engagement and protective shelter of a community. Looking forward to seeing where you guys will land!
