You abandoned us. Left my people to rot and die. You have not saved us and you call yourself a hero? Starving, shunned, blamed. That is my life and when you experience it yourself, you call it unfair? You are not justice. You are a narcissist, protecting the law enforced by the one who enslaved us. It is time you and the regime you protected kneel down to our wrath. You’ve stolen everything from us. We are simply taking it back. The people I’ve killed? They all deserved to rot in hell.

Do a campaign where after all the adventures they had previous, where some of them had to do death saves and live. They get the idea that they think they are unstoppable. Now add a hooded man, the embodiment of death come and teach them a lesson in humility. Teach them that death always comes for us all. Have his final lesson be called "Memento Mori". Give them hope that there is a relic that can save them but it's a perilous one. Along the way the hooded man stalks them down and "teaches" them one after the other. The climax is set in the chamber where the relic is stored. and they learn that it can only save one party member. Now your part as a DM is to judge wether their actions and words finally change from when you all started. Make them sweat, beat them to an inch of their lives and ask finally ask them.. "was it all worth it? risking your lives for a trinket useful only to one?" The rest is up to you. FYI though this is basically the premise of Puss in Boots the last wish without the Jack Horner parts. I've been tailoring the encounter for my buds for our game night but their all pretty busy with life so I haven't had a chance to see it come to a conclusion.

I basked in the sensation, the smells, the absolute villainy of the act I had finally completed. I’d spent days, months, and years into this one act, this one act to show everyone that you can’t trust in ANYONE to give out safety. quick pov, warning may contain cringe and this is only my second time making a pov: I stared down at the burning city, flames flying through the air, smoke and fire reaching everyone and anyone near, seeing everything burn sent this specific feeling up my spine, I couldn't quite place my finger on it, it felt powerful but guilt wasn't far behind, I shaked the thoughts away and continued looking down at the burning city, scanning everyone and everywhere to make sure no one gets left out of this astonishing act, 'I will finally get recognized and fear will fill up everyone's mind just by the sound of my name' I thought, as I looked I saw a pale man, staring at me, with the rest of his body covered by smoke i couldn't tell if he was a threat or a civilian simply just dying. I jumped off the building, catching onto a pole and sliding down I looked for the eyes but they were gone, before I could realize that same pale man was standing infront of me, out of a panic I grabbed onto my sword and to slice his neck, but there was nothing. He dissapeared into thin air. Years later, feel as those same pair of eyes follow my each and every step.
