Its unbelievable that 10 years ago the entire DCEU started here thanks to Zack Snyder! Still my second best movie of 2013 Thank god for Snyder hitting the reset button because we have a new Superman for the ages that's more grown up, edgier, and more real-world based post 9/11 era These are top-caliber actors playing these comic book counterparts; Henry Cavill as Superman, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Ayelet Zurer as Lara, Amy Adams as Lois, Michael Shannon as Zod, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Andre Trautje as Faora, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Kevin Kostner as Jonathan Kent, and Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy The movie has amazing action sequences, a terrific cast, beautiful music by Hans Zimmer, and they do take breaks to cover Clark's humanity Can the people of earth be trusted?, sometimes you have to take a leap of faith trust comes later, choosing destiny is much different than being born into conformity, facing xenophobia is a consequence of letting the world see who you really are So much world building takes place too giving Krypton its rich culture and politics I did get pretty teary eyed when it came to Krypton's destruction knowing Clark's parents will never see him grow up I spotted many references to past Superman films too There’s also many religious allegories even if they hammer it in a lot with the Christian parables but also hinting possible autism with a child like Clark adjusting to himself Henry Cavill does resemble Reeve in many ways and amazingly plays the part of an alien learning to balance being more than human and what it means to be human being more introverted, it helps he has two father figures from two worlds helping him realize he can belong to both I didn’t buy the romance at first with Amy Adams with Henry Cavill Michael Shannon is fierce and intimidating as Zod even if he doesn't spout his infamous line "Kneel before me!" His followers like Faora are deadly but Namek barely gets any lines Zod even has that Nazi mentality creating a master race colony of pure genes, he is a leader after all doing what's best for his people not believing he's villainous Genetic modification and artificial population control is also present as hot button issues The 2 hours and 23 min zips by fast which is good and this isn't as cartoony as previous film incarnations There’s lots of debate with Superman killing Zod and the massive amount of destruction left in his wake but none of that bothered me so much This ends up being a modern summer blockbuster with a more realistic look at the man of steel in our 21st century It’s a Superman for our generation that’ll continue to change

*spoilers* The moment I knew this movie couldn't be saved is, after Superman first fought Zod and Ursa in Smallville. After all the destruction, all the chaos, Superman emerges from the ruble and debris of a building, the army surrounds him, decides to let him go, and even tho everything else around him is in total destruction, the camera pans out and 3/4 of the next shot is "SEARS". Crisp and clean like nothing happened, even tho the city is pretty much gone, the SEARS brand is still there. Now I am all cool with product placement, it helps films get made, but they might as well put in a 30 second TV commercial for Sears showing off the new summer line there.

Oh and the fact the Pa Kent pretty much told Clark that he should've left a bus load of children die. Yeah that's what we want in a Superman movie, Superman letting a bus full of children die. Fuck truth, justice and the American way. Instead you're alien Jesus, let those kids die and show us how to be better people Superman, we will totally follow you into the sun/light after you're personally responsible for literally hundreds of thousands of deaths. Man fuck you Zack Synder, you might as well made a short film with you pissing on Christopher Reeves grave and it would have the same impact

***** You better be careful throwing logic into this.....because a couple of blogs later, you're gonna get that fanatic fanboy going, "No, ZOD and the villains were doing the most damage," or my personal favorite, "Superman is NEW and he doesn't have experience yet,"(beside the fact that he hung out on Earth for about 30 years knowing that he wasn't a normal kid).

"Clark did save someone at the end and it cost Zod's life (which was a freaking epic scene if u ask me" Yes it was, I guess I was the only fangirl in the theater, because I literally said "holy shit" loudly when Superman took a life. Batman and Superman don't kill people regardless the crime period. Superman has been around for 75 and that's a first. lol

Saw this on demand, and I was kind of underwhelmed. There were some good scenes but mostly I was bored, and I didn't like the non-linear storytelling. Kevin Costner was good for the brief time he was on, and the scene with the tornado was unexpected and powerful. I didn't like Lois Lane in this, she didn't do anything amazing, and the romance between her and Clark is unrealistic and rushed. But I have to say when Zod came down, everything that followed after was amazing. The fights were cool, and I didn't get too uncomfortable with the collateral damage, as it is to be expected. If we saw people dying and bleeding all over, it would be more disturbing, but it was tolerable. Overall, I give it a low Matinee.

The only reason Lois ended up on that plane is because............PLOT.
@TheQuantum09
@TheQuantum09 9 жыл бұрын
***** Uh...........they DID waste characters(Lois being the most wasted). The only reason that they stuck a romantic interest, in this case Lois, in Man of Steel is because of her association with Superman in the comic books. It's not that the performers(actors)are bad actors, but the script does not give them ANYTHING to work with beyond crowbaring them into scenes or situations they don't need to be in or watching EVERY character give SPEECHES instead of charisma or dialogue(or the FORCED non-charismatic romance between leads: Lois & Clark).

why did clark let his dad die (one of the most important people in his life) but was willing to slam a truck through an electric pole, save a reporter (some of the nosy-est people in the history of ever) who he never met, who he should be smart enough to know that she could track him down. and superman who hates death more than anything was able to snap zods neck, and while yes it tortured him for around 30 seconds, in the exact next scene it was like it never even happened.

I'm with Co-Host. I absolutely loved this film. I thought it was a great introduction to Superman and the DCCU. I actually did not mind the collateral damage because even in the Superman comics and cartoons there has been collateral damage. We don't really see any people in these buildings.

How is this movie stupid and how am i a fanboy? Is it because i loved the movie? So what, it was a great way to introduce Superman to modern audiences and those that have read Superman comics. I do have some problems with the movie but overall it's not terrible. It's not Green Lantern, Iron Man 2 or Jonah Hex.

91MoonKnight Go to Confused Matthew's movie review site and watch his Man of Steel review and it will show you how stupid this movie is. LOL Fanboy. By the way, when you say modern audiences, a modern audience is considered stupid by Hollywood standards. And Green Lantern is better than this exposition, characterless Man of Steel movie.
@91MoonKnight
@91MoonKnight 9 жыл бұрын
Wow, so basically what your trying to say is that everyone is considered stupid in your opinion and that Green Lantern is a better movie than Man of Steel. Green Lantern has a lower score than Man of Steels and Man of Steel made more at the box office than Green Lantern. Man your hilarious, this was fun.
@TreeRockCreations
@TreeRockCreations 9 жыл бұрын
And Green Lantern got that score because Fanboys wanted more explosions and things that go boom instead of characters or plot. LOL Fanboy...you're right, this has been fun proving my point. Go worship your exposition dumb one dimensional destroying city Man of Steel movie.

No no... most critics hate it because the action never learns to calm itself down. Not enough drama and character development overall makes for a somewhat shallow viewing experience. All of the potentially good dramatic scenes on Krypton were unfortunately rushed due to mindless fights. I liked a lot of the flashbacks that dealt with Clark's childhood and Jonathan Kent, but the rest of the movie goes flat the moment Zod's gang enters Earth. I loved the fights, but they went on for too long.

There was nothing wrong with the amount of destruction in this movie. It was a more realistic approach to what happens when these type of characters go at it. And as far as saving people, superman can NOT be everywhere at one time to save people. He saved those that he could. Hes just one man. Its a more realistic approach and This was THE best superman movie Ive seen. Nothing wrong with this version at all.

for starts when they start terraforming the earth i think most buildings where evacuated and there is a lot of trafic in the back round when superman and zod are kicking the crap out of each other the buildings are empty there are like 2 or 3 times where you see the inside of the buildings and there is no one, most of the population are evacuating, superman is fighting him so he can stop him...and they only say jeni the dont say jennie olsen so watch the ovie again and i think you like it more

As far as saving people there was the dude who fell out of the chopper and Chris Meloni's character, who was about to get gutted by Faora. Sure, those were a little more immediate and during a slightly less intense fight by comparison but these were also guys who were shooting at him and would clearly have killed him had it been possible. I think that should count for something.

*Spoilers* I just wanted to talk about the collateral damage complain. The way i see it , the city was being destroyed waaaay before Clark and Zod fought by the Planet Shaper. The civilians were being evacuated from the city and you can clearly see that by the time Clark gets there and starts fighting Zod , the city is mostly empty and already half destroyed. And yes Clark did save someone at the end and it cost Zod's life (which was a freaking epic scene if u ask me)

Idiotic fan boys just don't get it, It's not that Superman didn't save everyone because it's unrealistic to expect him to save everyone but it's the fact that he didn't even try.

I know right? ^ I didn't expect him to save everybody but at least seem to care about the people around him.. He seems to have this reaction "well that happened...oh well time to move on" I expected him to be more like Goku from dragonball z Fighting while also caring about the people around him Although those skyscrapers full of people sure came in handy when superman needed something to smash zods head into, I guess he's grateful for that

+Rogue Reaper You can't compare DBZ universe to the film Zod went for the city on purpose he said Clark you either kill me or I start killing people in the city, during Zod fight he kept pushing in the fight into the city. It had some realism if two beings like that were to ever clash the destruction would major. The marvel studios film I'm a big fan but they downplay and cutaaway from the destruction and deathtoll way too much. Biggest example Iron Man and hulk would caused way more damage but again downplay it.

***** I see where your coming from if the film had been less serious then people would be open to it keep in mind Green lantern was the opposite and it failed, WB stuck to what works for them which is the dark tone. I think people have their nostalgia googles on too much from the Reeves films and can't make their mind up on what type of Superman film they want.
@Temujin18S

***** Green Lantern failed due to a bad script, and tone of the film was inconsistent. Casual cinema goers didn't care about Iron Man yet that became successful.

Came back here after DT's review on THE Suicide Squad and him defending the 2016 flick...lol Man...at first, i thought these guys were actually on board with Snyder's idiotic take on the man of steel. i really had HIGH hopes for this movie when the trailers came out...and having liked his Watchmen, i did think Zack was the right guy for the job. boy, how WRONG a guy can be... This movie could've been great with a couple of more draft works on the script and...somebody else than Zack Snyder directing it. by the way...Amy's just NOT right for Lois. Rachel McAdams would've made 100x better Lois Lane.

I swear all the official reviewers give it a low rating yet most people say its amazing. I really dont understand why nobody thinks the city would have been evacutated while the ship was coming down, which was clearly shown. And no superman did use his brain to defeat most of the enemies by using his own ship which they planned together. What options would Superman really have had after this trying to defeat Zod? It would have just been a fight.

i think the problem here is that people were expecting the original but updated, which i'm glad they didn't do. they decided to cut the parts about Superman life that dealt with clark and focused on Kal-el instead. which is why most of the flashbacks focused on where his alien aspects were involved. this movie was about the Man of Steel, the alien, Not Superman or Clark. it was a sci-fi alien movie about Kal-el which will lead to Superhero movie about Superman.

My 2 cents on the 9/11 comparison. To say that the carnage was worse than 9/11 is so obvious because, one was a comic book movie and the other was unfortunately real life. I would never want to compare a real life event from a piece of fiction. Of course if you see the parallels, that's fine but to complain that the destruction in a Superman film is too much.

Collateral damage will happen when huge God like beings are battling it out at bullet like speed. I also noticed a lot of the office buildings they smashed into were empty. I think with the next film Superman will learn to control his powers better and they will introduce Lex Luthor and he will help rebuild the city and hold a grudge against Superman.

I finally saw this movie today with my mom and I enjoy it too and not a die hard fan of Superman just a causal fan of Superman but I’m more of a fan of Batman than Superman fan but that just me though bro and Clark Kent aka Superman played by Henry Cavill he did a great job in this movie and he was awesome too as this character and they nailed Superman in this movie too and Lois Lane played by my girl Amy Adams she did a fantastic job in this movie and cool name btw that’s actually my name too except my name doesn’t have the S at the end of my name lol but she did a awesome job in this movie and she is so sexy as hell and she is gorgeous too and I’m a fans of this actress too now love her to death bro and General Zod played by Michael Shannon he did a great job as the main villain in this movie and he was awesome too as this character too and Martha Kent played by Diane Lane she does a great job in this movie and she is so sexy as hell and she is gorgeous too and I love her as a actress too now love her to death man and Jor-El played by Russell Crowe he did a great job in this movie but he barely in it though but when he was on scene he did a great job as this character too and Jonathan Kent played by Kevin Costner he did a great job in this movie too but he barely in this movie too but when he was on screen he does a good job in this role and Lara Lor-Van played by Ayelet Zurner she does a good job in this movie too and I remember seeing her in Vantage Point 2008 and she does a good job in that movie too and you guys did a review for that movie too as well and she is a good actress and she is pretty too as well and Perry White played by Laurence Fishburne he does a good job in this movie too but he barely in this movie too but when he was on screen he did a awesome job as this character too and I remember when this movie came out after I graduated from high school and got my first job and it brings me back so many good memories too and I sure do missed the good old days too and I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since this movie came out and it marks the 10th Anniversary when this movie was released in theaters and I can’t believe it’s been that many decades now and time sure does flies in the movie world that’s for damn sure bro and overall I’m gonna give Man of Steel 2013 a 8.5/10 stars I really did enjoy this movie for what it was but I just wish we could of seen more fight scene with the main villain in this movie and I didn’t care for the ending that much and could of been little bit better too but that just me though in my opinions and thoughts on this movie Spill Audio bro

i hate that most critics hated the film because it wasn't like the 1978 superman all camp and funny. well if they read superman in modern times he is not like that no more and superman returns did what they wanted they hated that as well. it's one of those moments where critics don't know what the FUCK they want.

This movie had nothing. No story and no character. That's the root of what they're saying, which is accurate. They give it too much credit, though. This movie was tripe.

I disagree. Christopher Nolan ruined Batman. in Christopher Nolan's version there would never be any other superheroes in that universe. And there's no way in Hell Batman would retire for 8 years . And just because he came back Alfred would leave him, that's just stupid.

the characters that aren't Superman or Lois or the main villain are never that interesting in the comics either, why develop characters we give no shits about in the first place, the movie focused on who it needed to focus on.

Haters, just shut your mouth!!! When an Alien invasion happens, do you really think there wouldn't be any casualties? It's an Alien invasion!!!!! In the Avengers, it seems like the aliens weaponry only attacked cars and buildings but surprisingly there weren't any human casualties. Does that make sense? If Chewbacca lived in planet Endor does it make sense?

Lois is a passionate reporter and a go getter. The Dcau portrayed that PERFECTLY. I hate when people demen lois cause shes a female civilian and a love interst. No duh shes a HUMAN civilain. She doesnt need powers to be impactful or important.

Ps If a wall got bout EVRYTIME someone died. The city would be FILLED with them. But its not the heroes fault. You all are giving this a cynical view of "this is unrealistic" bla blah blah and if your doing all that in a comic book film , its not for you. Which is why comic con is for fans not people trying to understand the genere by changing evrything that makes it what it is.
